View a grid of Calabi-Yau Shapes | View a Spinning Calabi-Yau Shape String Theory predicts the existence of more than the 3 space dimensions and 1 time dimension we are all familiar with. According to string theory, there are additional dimensions that we are unfamiliar with because they are curled up into tiny complicated shapes that can only be seen on tiny scales. If we could shrink to this tiny, Planck-sized scale we could see that at every 3D point in space, we can also explore 6 additional dimensions.

This animation shows an array of Calabi-Yau spaces which are projections of these higher dimensions into the more familiar dimensions we are aware of. Brian Greene's book, The Elegant Universe, was made into a documentary and has a chapter that does a good job of explaining this concept. Permission has also been granted to use this animation in the movie Mr. Visualization by Jeff Bryant and based on concepts from A.J. A.J. Lampade e illuminazione &'COSTA design. PARACLOUD GEM anyone? I was invited as a member of Artivistic, but I have to admit, I felt a bit out of my league amongst seasoned academics and artists, addressing a subject I wasn’t sure I quite understood properly. Nonetheless, I tackled it from my own perspective, presenting Artivistic’s Promiscuous Infrastrcutures project, and was happy to contribute to the more action-oriented panel Demo or Die. So as some of you may know, Peder Norrby, founder of Trapcode, announced and demoed an upcoming new Trapcode plugin called Mir and showed it off at NAB 2012. It’s polygon based with awesome GPU acceleration! I had the honor to beta test this baby and wanted to show off some of the amazing things you can do with this thing and what you can expect for the upcoming 2012 summer release. I want to discuss a little bit about the process of these renders and a little bit about Mir. Clearly I cannot say much until the plugin is released, but let me first start off by saying that Mir is extremely fast.
