Mary Cassatt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Mary Stevenson Cassatt (/kəˈsæt/; May 22, 1844 – June 14, 1926) was an American painter and printmaker. She lived much of her adult life in France, where she first befriended Edgar Degas and later exhibited among the Impressionists. Cassatt often created images of the social and private lives of women, with particular emphasis on the intimate bonds between mothers and children.
She was described by Gustave Geffroy in 1894 as one of "les trois grandes dames" of Impressionism alongside Marie Bracquemond and Berthe Morisot. Early life Business Boom Collective. Art / Tessellations. Illusions of the Body — Gracie Hagen. This series was made to tackle the norms of what we think our bodies are supposed to look like.
Most of us realize that the media displays only the prettiest photos of people, yet we compare ourselves to those images. We never get to see those photos juxtaposed against a picture of that same person looking unflattering. That contrast would help a lot of body image issues we as a culture have. Imagery in the media is an illusion built upon lighting, angles & photoshop. People can look extremely attractive under the right circumstances & two seconds later transform into something completely different. Within the series I tried to get a range of body types, ethnicities & genders to show how everyone is a different shape & size; there is no “normal”. Celebrate your shapes, sizes & the odd contortions your body can get itself into.
Note: This series is product of passion on the part of the artist & volunteers. . © Gracie Hagen 2013.

Eros Arts. Brooding Cityscapes Painted with Oils by Jeremy Mann. San Francisco-based artist Jeremy Mann executes these sublime, moody cityscapes using oil paints.
To create each work he relies on a wide range of techniques including surface staining, the use of solvents to wipe away paint, and the application of broad, gritty marks with an ink brayer. The resulting paintings are dark and atmospheric, urban streets seemingly drenched in rain and mystery. Illustrations for The Art Deco Book in France. Ubi sunt compounere? Ubi sunt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Ubi sunt (literally "where are...
[they]") is a phrase taken from the Latin Ubi sunt qui ante nos fuerunt? , meaning "Where are those who were before us? " Ubi nunc...? ("Where now? ") is a common variant. Sometimes interpreted to indicate nostalgia, the ubi sunt motif is actually a meditation on mortality and life's transience. Ubi sunt is a phrase that begins several Latin medieval poems and occurs, for example, in the second stanza of the student song "De Brevitate Vitae", known from its incipit as "Gaudeamus Igitur": "Ubi sunt qui ante nos / In mundo fuere? El Baño de Frida - Catálogo - Editorial RM. Arthur Rackham. Arthur Rackham (19 September 1867 – 6 September 1939) was an English book illustrator.
Biography Rackham was born in Lewisham, then still part of Kent as one of 12 children. In 1884, at the age of 17, he was sent on an ocean voyage to Australia to improve his fragile health, accompanied by two aunts. At the age of 18, he worked as a clerk at the Westminster Fire Office and began studying part-time at the Lambeth School of Art. In 1892, he left his job and started working for the Westminster Budget as a reporter and illustrator. His first book illustrations were published in 1893 in To the Other Side by Thomas Rhodes, but his first serious commission was in 1894 for The Dolly Dialogues, the collected sketches of Anthony Hope, who later went on to write The Prisoner of Zenda. Significance Arthur Rackham's works have become very popular since his death, both in North America and Britain. Technique Cinderella silhouette illustration Notable works

Chapter 1 Modern, Postmodern, and Contemporary At roughly the same moment, but quite in ignorance of one another's thought, the German art historian Hans Belting and I both published texts on the end of art.(1) Each of us had arrived at a vivid sense that some momentous historical shift had taken place in the productive conditions of the visual arts, even if, outwardly speaking, the institutional complexes of the art world--the galleries, the art schools, the periodicals, the museums, the critical establishment, the curatorial--seemed relatively stable.
Belting has since published an amazing book, tracing the history of devotional images in the Christian West from late Roman times until about A.D. 1400, to which he gave the striking subtitle The Image before the Era of Art.
