Untitled. Untitled. Full Size RC Car: 14 Steps (with Pictures) As we are using a car with automatic transmission in this build it makes it relatively easy to change gears as we just need to move the lever in a linear motion to certain points.

Full Size RC Car: 14 Steps (with Pictures)

Note: I decided to use the existing lever and not link directly to the transmission cable as I wanted to keep the car as stock looking and interior as normal as possible. The only difficult thing you might think of is that most automatic transmissions require you to depress a button before you can move the transmission lever. As we are using a linear actuator that has a worm screw, we can use its self locking ability to hold the transmission lever in place when it is not moving it. So as for the button, you can go about locking it into the “depressed” state permanently. The linear actuator used here needed to have enough stroke to change from the Park position through to Reverse, Neutral and then to Drive.

Augmented Reality Eyeglass With Thermal Vision: Build Your Own Low-cost Raspberry Pi EyeTap: 6 Steps (with Pictures)

Build your own low-cost open-source EyeTap eyeglass: the OpenEyeTap project. Recognize faces, overlay augmented reality content, etc., using the visible light camera, and, optionally, add also a thermal camera... Now you can walk around your house and see where the insulation is failing, see where heat's leaking out, see how the furnace airflow is going through the ductwork and into the house, see which pipes are going to freeze and burst first, and you can even go to a public place and see who's packing heat. The EyeTap was invented by Steve Mann, and made better by a team of really smart superstar students. First let's acknowledge the great students that made this work what it is. Internet Archive: SFLan. Internet access in bulk, delivered to a location with good fiber connectivity, has become amazingly cheap.

Internet Archive: SFLan

Retail Internet access remains comparatively expensive because of the costs of distributing that bandwidth to individual homes and businesses. But wireless technology has now advanced to the point where it is possible to deliver high-speed, always-on Internet connectivity without building a costly "last mile" infrastructure. Using unlicensed, freely available radio frequencies, Internet access becomes so cheap that it can be provided for free, as a public service. We envision a partnership between municipal governments and non-profit organizations to build a city-wide, wireless backbone. The system is based on three tiers.

The Internet Archive provides: Tier 1: Backbone sites with fiber, city-owned. Hackster. Hackster. Hackster. Smart Rain Gardens for Greener Cities. Why Smart Rain Gardens Rain gardens are natural planted areas populated by native species whose topological design and species selection allows for enhanced water-attenuation efficiency.

Smart Rain Gardens for Greener Cities

Rain gardens supplement our existing municipal water management capacity during and after water events through runoff and pollutant capture. In addition, rain gardens also help replenish local aquifers and can also be quite beautiful, enhancing the built environment adjacent to the garden. Rain gardens provide a home for local species of plants and animals to thrive in an otherwise less hospitable built environment. As our communities grow, the quantity of undeveloped land is dwindling, reducing the amount of open land available to passively absorb water during water events. Motion. The Things Network Labs. Hackster. Knocki. Connecting XBee to Raspberry Pi - DZone IoT. Last week I was doing some research on RF communication and controlling devices using RF. So what am I going to control here, I wanted to control the water pump running in my hydroponic reservoir without running wires from my raspberry pi. This way I can extend my hydroponic system to more balconies without buying extra RPi, a single RPi will send a switch on/off command and the RF client will switch on/off the motor via a relay. You’ve heard of beacons. Then there’s iBeacon, Eddystone, and what else? Here’s your primer to get started understanding iBeacon vs. Eddystone, their histories, and what makes them each uniquely cool. A beacon is a small device that transmits a Bluetooth signal at regular intervals. This signal is broadcast in a certain format, a communication protocol that describes the string of characters and numbers that make up the signal. The history behind the beacon’s initiatory protocol In short: The iBeacon profile is the first, and currently most commonly discussed, communication protocol around. The full story: iBeacon has been around since 2013. It would also take time for the world to understand the fundamental nature of the protocol. Get Started with Beacons

This guide explains the steps required to start using Bluetooth low energy (BLE) beacons to provide proximity-based experiences for your users. The steps you must take here depend on the way you plan to use your beacons. Ways to use beacons Most of the use cases for beacons fall under one of the following categories: Receiving Nearby Messages and Notifications You can add attachments to your beacons, and access those attachments as messages, with your own app using Nearby Messages and Nearby Notifications, which does not require your app to be installed. Interacting with the Physical Web The Physical Web enables quick, seamless interaction with beacons.

Get Started with the Proximity Beacon REST API   You can use the Proximity Beacon API to register beacons in the cloud, associate data with registered beacons as attachments, and maintain beacon registration data. This guide walks you through creating a Google Developers Console project, activating the Proximity Beacon API, and obtaining the appropriate credentials. Every request your application sends to the Proximity Beacon API must be either authorized using OAuth 2.0, or authenticated with an API key.

Requests which can modify beacon data or return administrative beacon data must be authorized using OAuth 2.0. Requests for public data (for example calls to methods like beaconinfo.getforobserved) do not require authorization, but must still be authenticated by using an API key. Before using the Proximity Beacon API, it is helpful to understand the basics of RESTful web services and JSON representations. Building a LoRa Sniffer with an Adafruit Feather M0. You’d be forgiven for not being familiar with LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) technology as it hasn’t been widely adopted by the masses.

The goal of LoRa networks is to bridge the gap between cellular networks, WiFi, and Bluetooth, by creating a mesh network that operates in an unlicensed frequency of the radio band. It’s being pushed by the LoRa Alliance as a way to get Internet of Things devices connected at a low cost. When Joe Broxson heard about LoRa, he was intrigued.
