The Art of Communication: How Toshiko Mori Crowdsources Consensus Last September, the Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA) selected New York-based architect Toshiko Mori to design a new arts facility in the downtown arts district of Rockland, Maine.
CMCA has been a staple of Rockland's harbor-front coastline since its founding by a group of local artists in 1952. And, with a desire to increase the museum's visibility, CMCA chose a site 10 miles south of its current location where the community will have closer access to the collection and resources. The new CMCA will be situated in proximity to the Farnsworth Art Museum (of which Mori designed the gift shop), the Strand Theatre, and several commercial galleries along Rockland's Main Street, cementing Rockland's reputation as an arts destination. The move is also seen as a catalyst to help revive downtown Rockland and its authentic working waterfront, lined with storied industrial buildings and marine activities. By OfficeAT.
