THE BREEDER

Her practice incorporates mixed media works, sculpture and prints that explore our perception of history, and the treatment and presentation of historical periods and objects, with a particular focus on classical Greek sculpture. Her series of wool weavings on vintage fridge grills have strong painterly qualities and combine the remains of a disposed domestic appliance with the production of textiles for the household. The artist defines this practice as sculpture, since it is the object that she is interested in, along with its relation with the body.

Choosing the fridge grill as a base for her weavings, she talks about how the invention of the fridge, as an appliance changed society and culture, especially in the Mediterranean where the warm climate made the preservation of food difficult. At Art Basel and Design Miami 2014 - Sight Unseen. What We Saw If you've never been to the Swiss version of Art Basel and Design Miami/Basel, what they say about it is pretty much true: If Miami's overall vibe seems to put partying, relaxation, and hedonism first and serious business second, Basel is decidedly the other way around.

Yes, people like Dasha Zhukova and Craig Robbins throw fancy dinners, and spending at least one night out until 4AM at certain local bars is a required rite, and the sales numbers are probably quite similar for both events, but being in Basel just feels different. For one, there's no offsite scene to speak of, so you spend almost the whole time in massive halls that are jam-packed full of people, leaving no room to forget that you're basically inside a shopping mall for the filthy rich. Mt ex Sendai, Colorful Tape Installation at a Warehouse in Japan. Ernesto Neto - Artists - Tanya Bonakdar Gallery. Since the mid-1990s, Ernesto Neto has produced an influential body of work that explores constructions of social space and the natural world by inviting physical interaction and sensory experience. Drawing from Biomorphism and minimalist sculpture, along with Neo-concretism and other Brazilian vanguard movements of the 1960s & 70s, the artist both references and incorporates organic shapes and materials – spices, spices, sand and shells among them—that engage all five senses, producing a new type of sensory perception that renegotiates boundaries between artwork and viewer, the organic and manmade, the natural, spiritual and social worlds.

Born in 1964 in Rio de Janeiro, the artist continues to live and work in Brazil. He studied at the city’s Escola de artes visuais do Parque Lage in 1994 and in 1997, and also attended the Sao Paulo Museum of Modern Art from 1994 to 1996. Since then, Neto’s work has been the subject of major museum exhibitions worldwide. House of Eternal Return ~ Meow Wolf.
