Personal Learning Environment
From its inception, the web has always had appeal as an educational resource. Recognising the potential for remote learning, in 2002, the launch of OpenCourseWare at MIT helped propel the initiative into the spotlight, with many universities following suit and providing quality educational material available through the web. No longer is there an excuse for anyone with access to the web to say that education is outside of their reach.

Teaching economics is one of my favorite things to do each year. A big part of the reason that I enjoy teaching economics is that learning about money gets my students excited about class.

The most important part of personal knowledge management (PKM), in my opinion, is the need for active sense-making . Merely seeking and sharing information does little other than create more noise online. Sense-making takes time, discipline, and effort. One strength of PKM is the “manual” nature of sense-making activities.

Wrap-up (5 minutes) You can use these questions to assess your students’ understanding of the lesson objectives. You may want to ask students to reflect in writing on one of the questions, using a journal or an online blog/wiki. ASK: What does it feel like when a teasing situation “crosses the line” from harmless to harmful? It seems as though the minute the iPad was announced, innumerable light bulbs went off as developers and entrepreneurs everywhere came to the same realization: "We could totally use this device as a digital whiteboard!" Indeed, a search for the word "whiteboard" in the App Store returns a whopping 170 iPad apps. Although the device's 10-inch screen may not compare to a full-sized, physical whiteboard, it can be quite handy to use a virtual whiteboard with team members remotely, and the iPad's form factor suits itself quite well to exactly that.
