I have always been much more attracted by the strength that a car embodies, its speed and danger, the power of these machines. Metal, steel, glass, leather, plastic, oil, and dirt – all agglomerated into one piece, which encloses me – blasting with tremendous speed through the landscape, is hugely exciting, arousing. Equally fascinating are the violent traces remaining of a collision on organic and inorganic material. Scars and bruises, blood, chipped varnish and sharp bumps, broken glass, splinters.
When JG Ballard wrote his novel "Crash" in the early 1970s, he ventured a brave, crazy and yet "true" look into the future of the fusion of man and machine. In my artwork I explore different ways of modern self-representations. Lotte Reimann Amsterdam, 30 December 2014 Brad Feuerhelm reviewing Jaunt on american suburb X May 2015. Nobuhiro Nakanishi｜中西信洋. Drawing these lines at set intervals creates gaps in between, deliberately leaving empty spaces. These lines and spaces create shapes that seem to encroach upon each other, yet co-exist harmoniously. My goal is to depict landscapes where contours, spatial distances and physical boundaries dissolve, like the infinitesimal world we see through the microscope, an imaginary galaxy in a faraway universe, or a landscape steeped in fog. The shapes of the objects I draw are ambiguous and impossible to touch. Lines drawn in freehand have tremors, evidence of the pencil’s contact with paper. 2010/ Text/ Nobuhiro Nakanishi ← back. SHIZUKA YOKOMIZO, DEAR STRANGER… Posted on November 16, 2012 by Isabella Cecconi Dear Stranger, I am an artist working on a photographic project which involves people I do not know…I would like to take a photograph of you standing in your front room from the street in the evening.
A camera will be set outside the window on the street. If you do not mind being photographed, please stand in the room and look into the camera through the window for 10 minutes on __-__-__ (date and time)…I will take your picture and then leave…we will remain strangers to each other…If you do not want to get involved, please simply draw your curtains to show your refusal…I really hope to see you from the window. The amazing Shizuka Yokomizo’s photo project, came from running around London with huge telephoto lens, trying to glimpse unsuspecting people through the windows of their flats. Shizuka Yokomizo, Japanese by birth, photographer by choice, has been living in London for more than 15 years. Www.shizukayokomizo.com. Joachim Schmid. Martin Parr.
