DIY Woven Chain Bracelet. Chain link bracelets, with colorful threads woven through them, have been popping up here and there. We adore Aurèlie Bidermann‘s Do Brazil bracelets and thought it was about time we graduate to the ultimate “grown-up” friendship bracelet. With a curb chain bracelet and some embroidery thread, we’ll teach you how to make your own woven chain bracelet. And one for your bestie too, of course. You’ll need:a curb link braceletembroidery threadtwo bobby pinsa pair of scissors Cut 2 sets of 15 strands of embroidery thread, with each strand measuring four times the length of the bracelet. Lay the second color (blue) over the first color (coral). Repeat the steps until you reach the end of the bracelet. (top images from here and here, rest of images by Honestly…WTF)
Sex And The City Half Scoop Gloves. LEATHER-SEWING TIPS: Use a longer stitch than you normally would when it comes to leather...and a good tip when sewing leather is to crank the needle forward manually so that it has pierced the leather completely...BEFORE pressing with the presser foot of the machine to sew your line of stitching. Start sewing with the needle already in the leather to say it another way. Also, you can't go super-fast or super-slow...there's a happy medium where your machine's feed dogs advance the leather at the right speed, the needle punches through the leather without jarring and hitting the needle plate, and the needle goes in vertically and doesn't hit the bobbin case.
Too fast and the aforementioned problems will crop up; too slow and the needle won't punch through the leather. It's different for every machine - just something you need to experiment with. (Of course, if you're using a heavy-duty/industrial machine for sewing leather, you can completely ignore what I've just written.:-) DIY Shredded Shirt. A big thank you to those who showed interest in my DIY Shredded Shirt posted last Friday. Here is the tutorial that I promised These instructions include a few photographs and a soundless video to demonstrate how to start the shredding process. Materials: Thin cotton t-shirt/tank top/anything you like really. Thin cotton fabrics are the best to use as it creates a softer drape effect.
Please refer back to my previous post ‘To Shred or Not To Shred’, to re-cap on what material to use, sizing recommendations and the designs you could do. A pair of good fabric scissors (you can use regular scissors too, but fabric scissors are just so much sharper and does the job much quicker!) Instructions: 1. 2. 3. 4. Sorry about the quality of parts of the video, my camera was having issues focusing, but I think it gets the point across. 5. 6. 7. 8.
Note: I mentioned in my previous post about using two techniques, it is really just one technique , but the styles are differentiated by the way it is used. DIY Anthropologie Scarf Flats. Life lesson: whenever you get to make a craft for work, it's a good day. When you are me and you make any excuse to break out the superglue, thread, needle, and grommet puncher-- it's like the greatest day ever. I saw these flats on Anthropologie's site about a month ago and since I work for a scarves store, I knew I had to make some sort of DIY project out of the idea. ;) The inspiration: Anthropologie, I love you. I mean I really, really love you. But there's no way I am paying $148 for a pair of flats. Step 1: For these shoes, you need a pair of flats. Step 2: Next you need to cut up your scarf into four strips. Step 3: Now you need to sew the little strips into tubes. Step 4: After you’ve stitched the little scarf tubes, you just start stitching the fabric to your flats.
Step 5: After you have both of the sides of your bow stitched to your shoe, all you have to do is tie it up. And voila! Ric Rac Rose - The Ribbon Retreat Blog. I love these easy-to-make Ric Rac Roses! Isn’t it beautiful? You can make these and use them in hair, on jewelry, on clothing, as embellishments on anything! And with The Ribbon Retreat’s large selection of Ric Rac, your possibilities are endless! They are also sold at an awesome price for $.65 a yard! – Supplies – Ric Rac (I used 3/4″) Hot Glue Accessory to attach it to The first thing to know about this Ric Rac Rose is that the wider the Ric Rac, the taller the rose. I started out by cutting two pieces of Ric Rac at 21 inches. I ended up using a bit less than 21 inches… probably 16 or 17 inches. Now we are going to “braid” the two pieces of Ric Rac together. Keep going until you get to the end. Take the end and curl the Ric Rac in. Continue rolling the Ric Rac.
You can put a little hot glue on the sides as you are rolling it. Here is how the side looks. When you like the size of your rose, you can stop rolling. Now put some glue on the under side of the rose. It looks pretty, just like this! Ric Rac Rose - The Ribbon Retreat Blog. DIY Lace Earrings. Dolce & Gabbana‘s Spring ’11 collection undoubtedly furthered our already fanatical obsession with lace. Honestly, how dreamy is the collection?! We thought we’d make good use of some vintage lace trim we had laying around and turn them into earrings similar to the ones we saw on the runway. And thanks to some tips from a DIY previously featured on Poppytalk, making lace earrings proved be a cinch! Mix equal parts glue to water in a bowl. Cut your shapes from your lace trim or doily, making sure both pieces are symmetrical. (Click images to enlarge) Submerge the cut shapes into the glue mixture. I haven’t stopped wearing mine since and can’t wait to make more.

First of all, it's Saturday and Saturdays are nice... :) And secondly, I'm officially posting my very first tutorial here today! Tadaaaaaa! The style of the earrings, with the arrowhead form and the chain to make them nice and dangly, was inspired by the lovely blog at a bit of sunshine. She also has a tutorial available to make these arrowhead earrings with leather instead of hex nuts... 12 hex nuts, brass or silver colour (I chose the M3 size which is the smallest I have seen here so far) I recommend using the smallest ones as otherwise the earrings get quite heavysmall metal curb link chain (but any small chain will work, whatever the style) I used 3 cm for each earring22 4mm jump rings earwiresflat nose pliers (prefereably the ones which are smooth so the jump rings won't be dented)round nose pliers (but any pliers with which you can grip the other end of the jump ring will work) Your fingers are sore?
And you are DONE!!!! PS. Easy Button Earrings Tutorial. Did you know...that you can make new earrings with a button and a paperclip? True story! I've been trying to think of a way for us to make some earrings without having to buy supplies. Buying the beads and all the findings can really add up. :o( Sad. But-oh, what? Walmart sells lots of pretty little buttons like this for less than $2. That still leaves the findings. Clip the top of the paperclip off with wire cutters: Snap off the button shanks: Glue the paperclip to the back of the button. Open the loop at the bottom of your earring hook by bending it outward and hook it onto your paper clip. And...pretty new earrings! Walmart was out of gold sparkly ones (I like gold.) but here are some cute ones I found on Walmart.com(about $1-$2): And some cute ones on Etsy: This Etsy shop has infinity cute buttons, you have to see it.

How to:DIY Crobra Braid Bracelet! LEDERSCHLEIFENARMBAND | Maikitten. Donnerstag, 3. A couple of days ago I saw these beautiful leather bracelets over at Les Mads and remembered some leather leftovers I had. Zunächst schnitt ich eine etwa 24 cm x 10 cm lange ovale Form aus, die ich in der Mitte mit einem kurzen Stück zu einer Schleife band und mit Alleskleber fixierte (besser hält: Leder- oder Textilkleber).
All you need to do to get a nice leather bracelet: - cut an oval piece: 24 cm x 10 cm / 9,5 inch x 4 inch - form a bow with a small band and use some leather glue to fix it - add a press button. Antique Gold Spike Slave Bracelet Hand/Finger by StudsandRoses. DIY Macrame Bracelet. Growing up by the beach in Southern California, the ability to knot a macrame bracelet was practically a right of passage. Although those days are long behind us, we’ve never forgotten the ever-so-simple square knot technique. This time, however, we’re replacing hemp and wooden beads for more updated elements like colorful nylon cord and glossy metal charms.
Happy knotting! You’ll need: Start by cutting the knotting cord into two 30 inch, two 20 inch and one 10 inch lengths. Center the 30 inch cord under the two middle strands. Pull tightly and slide the knot up to the top. Finish the 2nd half of the square knot by folding the left cord over the middle strands and under the right cord. Pull tightly and repeat the steps – left, right, left, right . . . To finish the knots, thread one of the cords onto a needle and sew up the center of 3-4 knots along the backside. Repeat the same step on the other cord. After sewing up both knotting cords, trim away any excess. Upcycled Bracelets. I bought this handbag at the thrift store a while back. I loved the color. The shape of the bag wasn't my style, but I knew I could do something else with it.
These are my creations. Other than the bag the only supplies I needed were a few beads, a needle and thread. My favorite thing about repurposing things is that most of the hard work is done for you. Now I just have to decide which one to keep and which to give away. Here is how I made them: For the Flowery Bracelet: I started by making a leather band for the base. Then I sewed seams up the sides to flatten it out. To make the flowers I cut five petal shapes. I hand sewed the petals together. After pulling it tight I sewed the two ends together to make the flower. To make the rosettes I just rolled up a small strip of vinyl and sewed it together. Once I had all my flowers in place I added more beads to fill in gaps. For the ruffled bracelet: I started with a strip of vinyl. Then I pulled on the bottom (bobbin) threads.

DIY Box Braid Necklace. The moment we saw Phillip Lim‘s Box Braid Collar Necklace, we were immediately overcome with a wave of nostalgia. Our memories of a neon, plastic box braid lanyard was suddenly transformed into a sophisticated leather jewelry component. Honestly, brilliant! Inspired by our fondness of Lim’s necklace and our love of utilizing hardware, we made our own interpretation of a box braid necklace.
And in case you forgot how to make your favorite childhood summertime craft, take a trip down memory lane with us! Start by cutting the suede in 4 three-yard pieces. Repeat the box braid until you are ready to add washers to the necklace. Once the necklace is finished, trim the ends. Wear it as a necklace, wrap bracelet or even a headband! (top image via Ssense, rest of images by Honestly…WTF) DIY Chainmail Necklace.
You’ll need: Start by separating the jump rings into two halves: 175 open and 175 closed. Thread three closed jump rings onto an open jump ring. Close the ring. Spread the three rings apart, with the rings looking exactly as shown below. The bottom ring will be the end of the necklace and the top two rings, which are spread open over the middle ring, will be where the chain mail begins.
Keeping the rings in place with your forefinger and thumb, take an open jump ring and hook it through the front side of the two rings. Add 2 closed rings to the open ring and close. Spread the two rings apart in the same way as the first set of rings. Add 2 closed rings and close. To add an optional fourth row, lay the necklace flat and hook an open ring through first and second closed rings on the right side.
I stopped at 4 rows but you can continue adding rows for a more bib-like necklace. Connect the two ends with a single jump ring or clasp. Fini!
