There’s an impressive presentation making the rounds dubbed “Mobile is eating the World” by Benedict Evans. In the presentation, Evans shows some staggering charts, interesting factoids, and all the other statistics you’d expect with a title so grand. It makes me think about mobile learning, mobile browsing, and mobile everything. But the real story here is about education. It’s about how we’re all going to be learning in the next few years and generations according to the data in the presentation below. Mobile learning is not only on the rise, it’s inevitable. As you can see in the presentation below (there’s just 24 slides, pretty easy to scroll through and worth it!)

So not many people will care about the Macbook announcement(s) but they will care about the internet radio service which some are calling iRadio. Same goes for education. Quite a few of those tools have been for creating simple videos that are really just automated, audio slideshows. See Animoto for an example of this. There's nothing inherently wrong with having your students use those tools, but at some point you will want to take your video projects to the next level. These are the five tools that I recommend for creating and editing videos without installing any special software.

Pixorial is the online video creation tool that I hear teachers talking about a lot lately. The thing that I like the most about Pixorial is that the video creation and editing tools are laid out in an intuitive user interface. Most users will never find themselves wondering what any of the editing tools do or what to click on next. WeVideo is a collaborative online video creation tool. PowToon is a nice service for creating explanatory videos through a drag and drop process.

I have two iPads now that I am using in my teaching. One of which I have started letting my 1st graders use on a daily basis. We are working on reading rhythms so that we can play the drums in our spring concert the end of April. So I loaded up RhythmCat Lite and we have been having a blast! In fact they like it so much that I bought the RhythmCatPro version.

Another app we have been using is FlashNote Derby. I’ve included a video to show you how the FlashNote app captures the students attention at the end of the blog post here. I do have to say that I’ve also had to figure out a way in which to keep track of who has taken their turn on the iPad – This is a HUGE deal with 1st graders! The 1st graders are doing great with these rhythms in RhythmCat that include Whole notes, half notes and quarter notes. Like this: Like Loading... Two Great Blooms Taxonomy Posters for Teachers. Blooms Taxonomy is another topical theme I keep writing about here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning whenever I stumble upon a new resource. I love this taxonomy and I always insist on its importance in learning , particularly in organizing the teaching content in such a way to enhance and promote those higher order thinking skills we all our students to develop.

Use it like a roadmap to guide you through the different areas of your lesson planning. If you are a new teacher and need to learn more about this taxonomy I recommend you read this guide first. Today I am sharing with you a really wonderful poster created by iLearn Technology ( one of my favourite EdTech Blogs and one that I highly recommend for you ). "I want to show teachers that just because these activities help students practice basic skills and remember and understand, there are SO many more options that will reach the higher levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy! "Teachers need to integrate technology seamlessly into the curriculum instead of viewing it as an add-on, an afterthought or an event.

" -- Heidi Hayes Jacobs, Educational Consultant, Curriculum Designers, Inc. Web 2.0 tools are online software programs that allow users to do a number of different things. They can be used to teach curriculum content, store data, create or edit video, edit photos, collaborate and so much more. These programs are often free and are used by teachers, students and sometimes parents, both in and out of the classroom, on a pretty regular basis. The question then becomes: are educators prepared to use these tools? Are educators, especially new ones, ready to incorporate Web 2.0 tools into their classroom? How can they be sure that the tool will remain a support piece rather than a replacement for their lesson planning and instructional practice? Embracing the use of Web 2.0 tools in lesson planning may still be new to many educators. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. FETC. iOS - Videos. 10 Apps for Students to Take Notes. As schools and districts move towards "1 to 1" and to "Bring Your Own Devices," the process of taking notes will take on a new meaning.

It the past couple years, for me personally, it has gotten to a point where writing for very long makes my hand hurt because I don't use a pen or pencil very often anymore. While attending Master's classes and Professional Development meetings, I have started using my laptop and iPad to take notes. I have a feeling this will become the trend in future years in education. As we move towards this, it will be important that students have a functioning way of categorizing and keeping notes organized. Here is a list of ten possible tools. Evernote - A staple among educators and almost a necessity for me these days; Evernote provides users the ability to take notes, save images, and other documents, as well as record audio to go along with your notes. Fetchnotes - More of a to do App, but does allow users the ability to take longer notes as well.

Innovative Doodle3D empowers anyone to create personal 3D prints.

Nov.23, 2012 Doodle3D, created by Rick Companje at FabLab Amersfoort, The Netherlands, is a very innovative, but simple and intuitive sketching tool enabling everyone to sketch out a 2D doodle. Anyone who can hold a pencil to make his drawing can use it to extrude and twist his design into 3D, without having to use complicated 3D modeling tools. "Even though 3D design programs are getting more user-friendly and accessible (ie.

Google Sketch-Up) they still form a major barrier for the average person. There are websites like Thingiverse where thousands of open-source 3D designs are made publicly available by others, but of course it is much nicer to print your own designs. " said Doodle3D. The Doodle3D software consists of a drawing canvas, some buttons (ie. 'new', 'oops' and 'print') for starting, deleting and printing your work. The user can also sculpt the object much like you would sculpt pottery to make the 3D object more real than an stack of 2D identical layers.
