The centre is a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. The PM first announced about the centre on April 10, 2017, on the occasion of the centenary celebrations of Gandhiji’s Champaran Satyagraha. The installations at RSK will introduce future generations to the successful journey of the world’s largest behaviour change campaign, the Swachh Bharat Mission. In a brief, Hall 1 of the centre will feature a unique 360° audiovisual immersive show for the visitors which will narrate India’s Swachhata Story. The CM claims it to be the most progressive and one of the good policies across the globe. The new policy is due to the aim of the Delhi government to kickstart the economy and to reduce the pollution levels in the capital. According to the government leaders, various EV policies from across the globe has been studied and considered before framing the EV policy for Delhi. The CM, in a press conference today, said, “We have issued a notification for the electric vehicle policy today… This electric vehicle policy is the country’s most progressive policy and most probably is one of the good policies in the entire world.”

The CM clearly states in the conference that the newly rolled out policy has two motives – firstly to boost the economy and secondly to contribute to the sustainable development goals by reducing pollution levels in the city. The first such train, carrying vegetables and fruits, would run between Devlali in Maharashtra and Danapur in Bihar. Earlier this year, the Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sutharaman had announced the initiative in her budget speech setting that a Kisan Rail would be set up through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode to carry perishable goods like fruits and vegetables. The first train will commence its journey from Devlali at 11:00 am and will reach Danapur at 6:45 pm on the next day, covering 1,519 km in 31.45 hours, said a statement from the Railways. Central Railway, Bhusawal Division is primarily an agro-based division and Nasik and the surrounding region produces huge quantities of fresh vegetables, fruits, flowers, other perishables, onions and other agro products.

The move is aimed to promote the use of electric vehicles among people as the first two lakh electric two-wheeler and as many as 5000 units of electric four-wheelers will be getting a cent percent exemption on road tax and registration fee. Moreover, the electric three-seater auto-rickshaws will also get the waiver on the first 20,000 vehicles and electric light goods carriers (including three-wheelers) will get the same exemptions for the first 10,000 units, as will the first 500 electric buses. Further, the new policy for EVs includes benefits like 20 percent capital investment subsidy up to Rs 30 crore, discounts on power tariff of about 25 percent up to Rs 5 crore, 100 percent reimbursement of SGST capped at Rs 25 crore for seven years, the interest subvention of 5.25 per cent for a period of five years up to Rs 5 crore and other exemptions like stamp duty.
