Database Design for Smarties - Reviewscout.co.uk. Publisher description If you want to see how your next database project can profit from object-oriented design, check out Database Design for Smarties, a lively and intelligent guide to using objects in databases.
The book begins with a tour of some underlying factors in modeling databases. Here, the author distinguishes between the external, conceptual, and internal models of database design.) Then it's on to data architectures, be they the traditional relational or the newer object-relational and object-oriented (OO) database types. After discussing some of the pitfalls of gathering and implementing user requirements, the author looks at UML notation for use case diagrams. The author's guide to UML class design is topnotch. Exceptionally well-written and clear, Database Design for Smarties offers consistently invaluable advice on how to take advantage of objects to create simpler and more maintainable database designs. There is perhaps no better choice for getting started with ATL than Beginning ATL 3 COM Programming, a guide that covers all the basics for anyone with some C++ experience who is new to this powerful library. This title strikes a valuable balance between exploring the ATL wizards in Visual C++ 6 and explaining (and tweaking) this tool-generated code. Early sections look at the basics of COM, from basic interfaces and conventions.
At first, code is written manually without ATL. ATL 3 can be used to manage windows and dialog controls, and the book points the way to working with basic and advanced dialog components (including common controls). The new ATL 3 offers a lot to developers, and Beginning ATL 3 COM Programming shows you how to take advantage of its built-in strengths. Rate the book. Welcome to Flash Portal. ATL COM Programmer's Reference - Reviewscout.co.uk. Using XML - Reviewscout.co.uk. Publisher description Using XML, Special Edition, is a wonderful reference for those who know what they're doing with XML, but a very confusing primer for those who don't.
To be fair, the Using series was never meant to teach someone; it was meant to crouch purposefully on your bookshelf, waiting patiently for that moment when you look vaguely confused--at which point it leaps off the shelf into your arms, dispenses the answer that you're looking for, and then slinks back into hiding. The book delves into the programming realm--where its strength lies, incidentally--after a couple of obligatory introductory chapters. Because XML, being a comparatively simple language, is more frequently about understanding when or why to use a particular feature than how, there is comparatively little code (though there's certainly enough of it to go around).
As would be expected in a reference book, there are pages and pages of tables with classes and features and commands aplenty.
