Volunteering. Volunteering. Child Care & Orphanage volunteer projects. Should I volunteer at an orphanage, or will I be doing more harm than good? | Volunteering advice | Latest news. Details Created on Monday, 05 August 2013 07:43 It all starts so simply and admirably, you want to make a genuine difference in the world and give something back; helping at an orphanage appears to be an obvious way to do so and has become a very popular type of volunteering. But international development is a complex balancing act and what starts out as very well intentioned volunteering can have unexpected negative impacts if not managed carefully. We think there are some fundamental questions which an organisation such as PoD and you as a volunteer should consider: Does the world need orphanages? We recognise that the word “orphanage” is an umbrella term for residential care and within this there may be children who do have one or both parents and are not considered “true orphans”. Does the world need orphanages?

I don’t think anyone would disagree that we would much rather live in a world where there wasn’t a need for orphanages. Is every orphanage good? Should PoD work with orphanages? Details Created on Wednesday, 26 June 2013 10:45 The Orphanage & Community Teaching project in Cambodia is gearing up for a “Pimp My Ride” fundraiser in July with a jazzed-up tuk-tuk ready to take the country by storm.

Four previous volunteers are this year returning to the volunteer project in Cambodia to arrange a promotional tour to help raise awareness and funds for the Orphanage and Community Teaching project in Cambodia. The team have donated a tuk tuk to the project and in July they plan to kit the vehicle out with comfortable seating, storage, sound system and most importantly, design it head to toe with promotional materials and awareness campaigns for the project.

The vehicle will then be ready for its debut touring Cambodia and the volunteers will spread the word about the project and the work they are doing in Takeo. On their return the tuk-tuk will then be donated to the project to help them transport children and volunteers around Takeo. The big nutrition drive in Peru | Overseas placements | Latest news. When Sally, the volunteer coordinator first started working at the school she was surprised to hear how old some of the kids were - because on first appearance you would easily think they were 4-5 years younger. The daily meals that our Community Education project provide for free include eggs, quinoa (a protein rich grain), oatmeal, cheese and occasionally fruit. Sally has given her account of the amazing day of the flash mob: Caribbean Reef Conservation - Belize | Conservation | Type of Volunteering.
