Crochet Work - Chapter IX - Encyclopedia of Needlework, Crochet Patterns, Stitches, Crochet Lace Patterns. By Thérèse de Dillmont Crochet lace. —Close leaves and bars with picots Crochet Work - IX Crochet work, so called from the hook, French croche orcroc, with which it is done, is not only one of the easiest but in comparison with the cost and labour, one of the most effective kinds of fancy-work. It is also one of the most useful, as it can be applied to the domestic requirements of every-day life, to wearing apparel, house-linen and upholstery; and we are sure that the patterns contained in this chapter, which have in addition to their other merits that of novelty, will meet with a favorable reception.

Hooks, or needles, as they are generally called, made of wood, bone or tortoise-shell are used for all the heavier kinds of crochet work in thick wool or cotton, and steel ones for the finer kinds. The Tunisian crochet is done with a long straight hook, which is made all in one piece. Fig. 400. Fig. 401. Fig. 402. Explanation of the signs *. Crochet stitches. Fig. 403. Fig. 404. Fig. 405.

DIY VINTAGE POSTCARD ART. Remember that painting I did for my sister Abby? Well around the same time I did this artwork for her room too. I got the idea from a magazine where they framed numerous postcards and arranged them in a grid on the wall. I took that idea and I added my own twist . My mom had all these vintage postcards she had saved up over time and since she didn’t want me to actually use the ones she had collected, I did the next best thing – scanned them in. This project was super easy and quick – probably took an hour tops.

Hope you enjoy! Here’s what you will need: 1) Canvas in any size 2) Vintage Postcards – My mom found these at various antique stores and flea markets. 3) Mod Podge 4) Large paintbrush You will also need a computer, scanner, printer, and some white cardstock. Get creative with overlapping and orientation! First use the modpodge to adhere the postcards to the canvas. That’s it! DIY GLASS MAGNETS. Recycled Magazine Crafts. The most basic kind of corset I make is a two-layer, plain coutil corset, using vertical panel piecing. This tutorial describes exactly how I make these corsets, and will note any simple variations you may want to try for yourself. As always, this is not the only way to make a corset, and you will want to try different methods until you find one you like.

This method is also extremely similar to how I make the core layers for my covered corsets. When I use a separate cover material without visible boning channels, it is added after the boning is inserted and secured, before edging or grommeting. Full details on how to do that will be covered in a different tutorial. Preparations Before you start, you will want to have extra machine needles and extra pins in the smallest guage you can find.

Also, be sure to never purchase brittle-steel pins, because they can shatter instead of bending. You will need an iron and ironing surface, for pressing your seams while working. Fun Washi Tape Japanese Masking Tape, Paper Tapes, Cute Korean Stationery, Decorative Tapes : cutetape. Kusudama Tutorial part 1. The Japanese kusudama is a paper ball made out of multiple identical origami shapes glued together.

They were traditionally used as a ball for incense or potpourri but now we see them more for decoration or as a gift. Today I am showing you part 1 on how to make the Japanese traditional shape. There are many different patterns to make a kusudama ball but I find this the easiest pattern to get started. This is also the pattern I used to make the pink flowers on the tree in the banner. What you need for this tutorial is: 60 pieces of paper cut into squares. Below I will show you how to make the basic shape, you need to make 60 of these.

Fold the bottom corner to the top. Fold the left and right corners up to the middle corner. Fold the same points down. Open up the flaps you have just created and flatten them. Fold the top triangles towards you so they are level with the edges of the paper. Fold the triangles back using the crease you made earlier and glue the outside triangles together. Lacy snowflake tutorial. This is a speedy, fun project. I've hung one of these in each of our living room windows, and it looks festive and wintery. How to make it: 1. Download my large snowflake template or small snowflake template. Print enough pages so you'll have 6 squares (1 or 2 sheets, depending on which template you chose). 2. 3. 4. 5. For want of a better name, I call these "meet in the middle" pop up cards. Half of the design is cut from either side of the card and the two pieces are slotted together. This card is really an elaborate variation of the slotted X mechanism. The slotted X is covered in Lessons 11 to 15. Check out the links to the other lessons in the right side column of this page. How to make the pile of hearts card Download and cut out template. Cut file: PDF, DXF, Silhouette Studio, SVG. Remove the large heart that lies on the center fold. Crease the fold lines at the heart bottoms, folding both piles of hearts toward the center foldline.

The card will close better if you cut the two halves of the (white) card apart at the center fold and glue them to the base card separately. Optional: back the cut out with patterned paper before gluing to the base card. Glue cut-out part (white) to base card (red). Pull the hearts toward each other and slot together above the center fold of the card. ★ Pop-Up Cards | Mechanisms & Templates for Free | DIY Instructions for Beginners ★ As a beginner to pop-ups, the V-fold and box fold techniques are likely to be the ones you will be using most. Here is a list of the most common mechanisms used in pop-up creation: - V-Folds: These can be cut and folded directly into the main piece of card, or can be created by adding an additional section of card for the pop-up shape.

V-folds are very versatile and are where, simply enough, a V shape is created with the pop-up section. It’s either the folds made in the base card, or the connections between the separate pop-up section and the base card, which produce the ‘V’ shape when the base card is open. This is the difference from box folds (see below), which are created using parallel horizontal or vertical folds rather than making use of V shaped angles. . - Box folds (also called Interval Stands or Layers): These are created with vertical or horizontal folds and cuts in order to produce 3D box shapes. . - Mouth folds: Mostly used to create the effect of an opening and closing mouth. Gift box packaging tutorial. For the past few weeks I've been constantly reminded of how I need to throw out the mindset of "I just need this/that before I can do my project", and rather just use what I have. One of my big problems is that I make something as a gift and then usually can't find appropriate packaging. So I've decided to start making my own. It works out WAY cheaper and if I keep it simple it only takes 10min.

Here is a basic tutorial so that you can make your own too. First choose and download a free template from Mirkwood designs for the type of box that suites your need then follow the tutorial. If you want a bigger box than the template, you can re-size it on the computer or with a photocopy machine. The tutorial below is for 'milk box' packaging, template here, but the same technique applies to all the different box shapes. Print straight onto cardboard or trace the template like I did, because the cardboard I had was too big. Now fold your box and stick it together.
