Extended Environments Markup Language: EEML This site provides information about Extended Environments Markup Language (EEML), a protocol for sharing sensor data between remote responsive environments, both physical and virtual. It can be used to facilitate direct connections between any two environments; it can also be used to facilitate many-to-many connections as implemented by the web service Pachube, which enables people to tag and share real time sensor data from objects, devices and spaces around the world. Possible end-users range from construction managers, large-building occupants and architects, to electronics manufacturers and interactive artists and designers. EEML supports installations, buildings, devices and events that collect environmental data and enables people to share this resource in realtime either within their own organisations or with the world as a whole via an internet connection or mobile network access. Minimum parts needed: (see Tom Igoe's parts list for additional details) Two 5-15VDC power supplies. Radio Shack sells 4AA Battery Holders that are convenient for remote 3.3 Volt circuits. Two XBee OEM RF Modules soldered to breakout boards (as shown here, steps 1 & 2 only ) One setup to connect an XBee the serial (or USB) port on your computer. My example circuit for XBee firmware uploads works great for this purpose. Everything you read here will work on Arduino, the many versions of Freeduino, the Barebones and RBBB, the Boarduino, the iDuino and MAXserial, the eauDuino, the Jeenode, the many Arduino-compatible boards listed below, and of course the new-kids-on-the-block, the Sanguino, the Freeduino EPIC and the Arduino MEGA. Because of the different hardware layouts of these boards, slight modifications will occasionally be required between physical platforms.
