They are considered the very finest examples of Welsh modern architecture, pushing the boundaries of sleek, sophisticated design - now these stunning buildings have been singled out as the nation’s most outstanding new creations.
From the sympathetic composition of a visitor centre, breathing in the stunning surroundings of Snowdonia, to the quirky yet practical grass-roofed elegance of a Gwynedd primary school, eight shortlisted projects have been hand picked by the Design Commission for Wales for their celebration of “Welshness” and “exceptional” architecture. The eight, completed between January 2012 and March 2015, will be whittled down to just one recipient of the prestigious Gold Medal for Architecture award, announced next month at the National Eisteddfod.

Qurratulain Poonawala (international partner - PAKISTAN) - qp.design@ymail.com Born in Karachi, Pakistan in 1982, Qurratulain graduated with a Bachelors in Architecture from the Indus Valley School of Art & Architecture.
In 2009 she undertook a course on ‘Interior Design for Retail’ from the Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, London UK Qurratulain has also been involved in architectural writing/journalism and often contributes to national press. She won the First Prize in the Eighth Annual Berkeley Undergraduate Prize for Architecture Design Excellence 2006 after which her work was published in the Almanac of Architecture & Design 2007. She is currently working on various residential & commercial architecture & interior design projects.
