Fran's Writings on Design and Engineering

Cracking the Code of the Apollo Saturn V LVDC Logic Devices (February 2013) I spent many late nights in squinty-eyed examination of the X-rays we took of the LVDC board, and plowed through hundreds of pages of publicly available documents about the IBM System/360 looking for clues that would help unravel the convoluted maze of puzzle pieces and reveal the nature of the LVDC logic devices. IBM developed the System/360 and the LVDC in tandem, and I expected that there would be much crossover of the two systems. In the end I found that these systems had surprisingly little in common in their gate designs, and some surprising facts emerged. http://www.frantone.com/designwritings/design_writings.html#saturnV

I am currently playing around with embedding hidden LEDs in the back flap of the bag. This bag has twenty charlieplexed LEDs arranged in a 4X5 matrix and controlled by five pins on an Arduino Lilypad. Each LED is individually controllable and, using persistance of vision , the Lilypad can turn on any or all at once.

The circuit On the face of it the design of a Sound Square is simple, all you need are several Infra red beams across an opening and when ever you place your hand in it you break one of the beams. Simply detect which beam is broken and you know where about the square your hand is, then convert that position into a note.

Updated Well the time has come to pour the clear casting resin .I have say I have been putting this off for some time ,but it all turned out well in the end as you can see below :) http://runawaybrainz.blogspot.com/2012/04/audio-crystal-cmoy-freeform-headphone.html

12V to 120V Inverter

http://www.aaroncake.net/circuits/inverter.asp Q1 and Q2, as well as T1, determine how much wattage the inverter can supply. With Q1,Q2=2N3055 and T1= 15 A, the inverter can supply about 300 watts. Larger transformers and more powerful transistors can be substituted for T1, Q1 and Q2 for more power.

Arduino Retro Computer with oard and SD card and BASIC interpreter for TV Copyright 2012 Usmar A Padow usmpadow@gmail.com (also known as amigojapan on freenode IRC and on youtube) This is a stand-alone computer that you can build easily May 13 2012: Finally released the TV version of the computer! May 7 2012: Added a BASIC preprocessor made in python that allows you to write code withought line numbers and to use labels. the preprocessor adds the lines and changes the labels to line numbers. Also made an AmericanFootball BASIC game, as an example of how to use the preprocessor.

Elektronika.ba Warm Tube Clock v1

Muris from Elektronika sent me a cool little nixie clock based on IN-16 Russian nixie tubes. Best of all - he published his schematics, documented the inner workings well, and even published the firmware for anyone to build. Right now, you can purchase the PCB's for the kit.

VGA-Killer Then we thought... what else has BNC connectors on it? Those old RGB video cables sure do, so we slapped on some T's and connected it to an old video cable.
