Social Media Management, Twitter Tools, Social CRM | Sprout Social. 6 Ways to Acquire New Customers via Social Media. We all know social media is an important tool for brand awareness and customer acquisition — but how exactly are you supposed to convert random Twitter and Facebook users into real-life customers? Well, that depends. Different brands have different challenges when it comes to customer acquisition: "If you’re our customer, you’ve signed up for a year-long service, unlike the Starbucks of the world, where you can be a customer by coming in for a cup of coffee one day," says Lisa D'Aromando, social media community manager at Equinox. Whether you're a clothing shop, a restaurant or a subscription service, you must tailor your strategy so that it makes sense for your brand.

That said, there are a few universal ways to help your company attract new faces on the social web. "I'm a big believer in creating and sharing meaningful content," says Danni Snyder, co-founder and creative director at jewelry brand Dannijo. But what does it all entail? 1. The key is to be proactive. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. We're Done With Kickstarter.

Being part of a web design and development community offers you many possibilities and chances for self-development. Each one of us knows about these communities and, at some point in time or another, wished or even was part of one of them. Knowing other individuals in your industry is something I recommend to everybody, as you can get a lot of help from such experts. Communities are not only created around people, but also around offline web design agencies, which give you even a better set of possibilities and a different network that you can use during your career. Design, development, social media, marketing or blogging (part of the web in general) are industries evolving a lot lately and this will not stop soon. Working by yourself was an option more than five years ago, but today things have changed and many of us have started to outsource in order to finish projects faster and earn more money.

Impact is the key in design. Make the viewer take notice. Persuade them to stay. Make them see the message and then sell it. Design is the balance of elements to create a visual message and nothing does it better than the propaganda poster.

It’s not just looking at examples as many propaganda posters break the rules of the real world. Propaganda is a message that may or may not be true but it convinces people to see its message and persuade them that it IS the truth. *Author’s note: Posters are presented solely as examples of design and in no way promote, excuse, or highlight fascism, communism, patriotism, or any other “ism” that exists or has existed. Some examples of powerful images War propaganda has included the most notable images in the history of coercion. Heroic and bold! On top of powerful images, twisting stereotypes dehumanize the target enemy.

Of course, using heart-wrenching emotion, guilt, furor, and death are great motivators. The trick to all the angles Colors and emotion. How to Track Social Media Traffic With Google Analytics. Today saw the arrival of one of the most anticipated Android apps in recent memory, with the launch of Instagram. The app is hugely popular on the iPhone and got some 430K signups on its pre-release signup page for Google’s OS. Now that it’s out, we decided to put it through its paces to see how the Android flavor compares against the one that iPhone users have grown to know and love. We found that much of the aesthetic had been ported over from iOS, with just a few concessions to Android user interface conventions. There are a few interesting details, however. The odd sizes of the screenshots are due to the differing sizes in the screens of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which I used to test Instagram for Android, and the iPhone.

I’ve left them this way because it does illustrate how the app uses screen real-estate differently. The News tab is pretty much the same as well, although there are two large tabs on the Android version, rather than the two buttons of the iOS version. Tablet News Aggregator Zite Introduces Publisher Partnerships. Content-discovery tablet app Zite on Wednesday announced a twist on its wildly successful algorithm-driven platform that company executives say will be a big step toward bridging the divide between content creators and aggregators. The app's new Publisher Program creates publisher-specific sections to exist alongside its subject-based sections. The program is launching with a group of eight publishers including CNN, Bleacher Report and The Huffington Post. But the launch of publisher-specific sections won't tamper with the mind-reading algorithms that are Zite's secret sauce and have made it a hit with users and reviewers.

When you read the Bleacher Report section, for example, the Zite algorithms will constantly analyze what you read, how long you stay with an article and how you rate articles to keep tailoring aggregated content to your tastes and desires. That smart science has made the app's sections that pull from a range of sources on different topics and sub-topics successful. Shoutlet, Enterprise Social Marketing Platform. Paper: the next great iPad app, from the brains behind Courier. 1inShare Jump To Close Georg Petschnigg throws his hands into the air as he traces the ages of human evolution that led us to develop the fragile wrists we need to use tools.

Petschnigg locks his wrist into place and pretends to scribble on an imaginary piece of paper, in the process lamenting the user interfaces we've come to accept from computing platforms. "How do we get back to creating? " he asks. "Developing ideas began as just dragging a stick in the sand. " Today, we mostly use our fingers to interact with touchscreens — the increasingly predominant means of controlling computers — but Petschnigg isn't content with that. Sticky TOC engaged! Interview Interview Design and UI Design and UI The tool Petschnigg and his company FiftyThree thought up is the aptly named Paper, designed exclusively for the iPad. Still, the FiftyThree team is reluctant to admit that there's Courier DNA in Paper, perhaps only because the project they so passionately incubated never came to be.

A work in progress. Pinterest vs. Google+: Which New Social Network Is Worth Marketers' Time? We've all gotten used to the idea of using Twitter, Facebook, and even YouTube for marketing -- even if the platforms aren't always as brand-friendly as they could be. And why should they be? They started as social networks meant for people to talk to people, not companies to talk to consumers. But in the struggle for monetization, they've had to adapt and continue offering ways for brands to market and make money using social media.

And we have! Many marketers have figured out how to generate leads via social media, start discussions with leads and customers, and even venture into the territory of social sales. Great. But do we need to figure out how to use them for marketing? So if you just can't decide whether Pinterest or Google+ is really worth your time, here's a breakdown of the pros and cons of each social network. Pinterest First, a quick review. Nothing replaces checking out your design on the actual devices that you’re targeting, but as you’re building, it’s nice to be able to get a quick peek of the layout at various widths right on your computer. You could resize your browser window manually, but this gets ridiculously tedious if you’re shooting for precise pixel dimensions. Fortunately, several talented developers have already built some great tools to aid you in this process.

Facebook just spent $1 billion on a company with no revenue. Facebook doesn't make substantial revenue off of its own mobile apps and it's not clear how the addition of Instagram will help the company monetize its mobile offerings. That can't thrill Wall Street as the social platform heads toward its initial public offering. But adding Instagram to Facebook does create some intriguing new possibilities for making money off of mobile.

Data, Data, Data Facebook generates a tremendous amount of data about its users. But while users often upload photos to Facebook, they actually take them with Instagram. Think about it this way: Facebook just bought a camera. Instagram itself was not in a position to capitalize off of its data. Here is the trick: Facebook has the ability to grow Instagram's user base by tens if not hundreds of millions of users. Friday, April 13th, 2012 | Posted by Jon Kolko I had the pleasure of participating in a panel discussion at Union Square Ventures yesterday, organized by Gary Chou and Christina Cacioppo. The focus of the panel was on the topic of “what should I make”, and we bounced around to touch on issues of process, insights, founders, and funding. I spent a bit talking about insights, and here’s what I talked about.

In the context of design and innovation, an insight is a provocative statement of truth about human behavior. Insights are one of the main output of design synthesis, and so by definition they are interpretative and subjective. That’s a lot of words, so let me try to explain what I mean by way of an example. One of our startups at AC4D is a company called Feast For Days.

These statements are true, at least for those that they observed. Then, through a series of synthesis methods, they came to the conclusion that: Finally, they identified insights based on their interpretation. 1 Comment » How to Monitor Your Facebook Network. We have truly entered a social-networked monitoring society. So keep an eye on your Facebook friends. In 2009, Zuckerberg declared the age of privacy over. By making Facebook user information public by default, he really did mean it. He later backpedaled and removed the default public-facing status update, but the age of privacy was dead long before that. Since YouTube co-founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen’s AVOS company first emerged a year ago when it acquired Delicious from Yahoo, we’ve heard nothing about anything else it may be working on – until now. A splash page for a new service called Zeen has emerged, promising to allow you to “Discover and create beautiful magazines.”

Domain-name-sleuthing blog Fusible discovered the page after noticing that Zeen.com had been privately acquired through brand protection agency MarkMonitor earlier this week. At present, there’s not much information available about how the service will work, although it does give you the opportunity to secure a username. The Privacy Policy page indicates that multimedia sharing will be a core part of the service, and suggests that there will be a browser bookmarklet available.

A ‘Jobs’ link takes you through to the AVOS jobs page, where the company currently has seven development and design-based vacancies. We’ve contacted AVOS for comment on the new service. 15 Things People Absolutely Hate About Your Website. One of the tenets of inbound marketing is not to annoy. So why is it that many websites are still chock full of the elements that so many visitors have bemoaned over and over? Perhaps with the sheer excitement (or terror, depending on your personality) that comes with designing your own website, all of the user experience quirks that have driven you crazy over the years escape your mind. But poor user experience can cause high page abandonment rates, low visitor-to-lead conversion rates, poor organic search listing positions, and a plain ol' bad reputation. So we compiled a list of the 15 most annoying things we've seen on websites to act as a sort of guide for what not to do when designing your website. Take a look at the worst offenders!
