You've probably heard that Pinterest is here and in a big way. If you're not already familiar with it, take a look and see if you can understand what the fuss is all about. The site has been around for a couple of years but only recently took off . I've been wanting to write something about Pinterest for the last 2-3 weeks, but haven't been able to because of a grueling work schedule, and rather than simply provide you an introduction to the site, I thought I would take a sampling of articles that have been written about it and see if we can explore some topics related to Pinterest instead.

"We're working to do everything we can to make this film available to as many parents, teachers and students cross the country." - The Weinstein Company president of marketing Stephen Bruno . TWC has decided to release "Bully," a film about childhood bullying, without a rating rather than accept the "R" rating given to the film for obscenities.COMMS corner: Toolkit Tuesday: 10 Top Twitter Analytics Tools
Instead of looking a the performance of Twitter accounts you manage, the following (mostly free) tools and resources are more relevant in keyword analysis and understanding Twitter accounts that belong to others. TweetReach allows you to search by keyword and it tells you how many people have been reached, number of impressions, the types of tweets sent by percentage i.e. 75% RT's and who has been doing the tweeting (ranked by follower count). It provides you with the most popular links, latest news links, a snapshot of influencers relevant to that topic (only an indication, I wouldn't use this particular output on its own), the most recent tweets and live pictures being shared on Twitter.Newspaper Death Watch
Bloomberg News is one of the few news operations that’s flourishing, and Knowledge@Wharton provides a glimpse of the editorial strategy that fuels its remarkable engine . Founded by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg in 1982, the financially oriented global information network today produces more than 5,000 stories per day from 146 news bureaus in 72 countries. Its TV network reaches 310 million people and it is in the middle of turning around BusinessWeek , which it bought from McGraw-Hill for $1 in 2009.Donald Trump made quite an entrance with his bodyguard in tow in the Michael's dining room today. The last time we spotted anyone with protection stationed inside the restaurant was when Elton John met with some bigwigs at Table One several years back. Life can be so complicated when you have money.

Tech Sometimes, you may just want to listen to your music in peace, without being interrupted by passers-by or visually intrusive ads, technology and surrounding events. That’s…Posted by Cory Bergman on March 26, 2012 Television made a big showing Monday night at the 2012 Shorty Awards , hosted by Samantha Bee and David Jones from The Daily Show. The annual event rewards the best producers of short-form content in social media, and TV is playing a larger role every year. Last night’s season premiere of Mad Men attracted a surge of social activity: 160K social comments on Bluefin Labs and an activity score of 218K on Trendrr , winning the night on cable TV. Unlike most shows that score big on the social TV charts , Mad Men is a scripted drama, not a reality TV show or live event. For example, the highly-promoted NBC premiere of Smash drew 52K social comments, compared to 160K for Mad Men, according to Bluefin stats.

For me (and many others) the end of the year always is a time to reflect and think about the past and future. This year is no different; it’s been an amazing whirlwind of layered and sometimes overwhelming experiences with some of the most fantastic people I’ve ever met. From my RJI fellowship , election to the ONA board (and the plethora of committees and projects I’m tied to for that now), helping lead the SND St. Louis conference , and promotion to Director of Mobile News for Lee Enterprises just to name a few big projects, plus all my work helping co-direct the NPPA Multimedia Immersion workshop , teaching at more than a dozen universities, South by Southwest Interactive and other amazing conferences and workshops .Journalism 2.0
Matthew Hurst of the Data Mining blog read a couple of recent accounts of the "process and principles of data journalism" -- one on The New York Times , the other on the Guardian -- and came away concerned there was no mention of "assessing or questioning the quality of the data employed, or its source": I don't mean to indicate that these institutions aren't concerned with the quality of the data they report … But just as we expect accountability regarding the sourcing of information and redundancy of sources for traditional journalism, we should expect these data sensibilities from data journalists. Hurst had also commented on the piece on the Guardian : One of the most important roles that a data journalist should perform is estimating the quality and bias of data sets being used. The open data movement has, to some degree, spread the assumption that government data is correct.

Pew and Elon University surveyed a bunch of blatherers, including me, about the impact of the internet on youth, asking us to respond to a number of contrary scenarios about the year 2020. Lots of interesting responses here . I saved mine. Snippets: * Survey on rewired youth: In 2020 the brains of multitasking teens and young adults are “wired” differently from those over age 35 and overall it yields helpful results. They do not suffer notable cognitive shortcomings as they multitask and cycle quickly through personal- and work-related tasks.
