80+ Beautiful Street Crimes done by BANKSY. Asked about his technique, Banksy said: “I use whatever it takes. Sometimes that just means drawing a moustache on a girl’s face on some billboard, sometimes that means sweating for days over an intricate drawing. Efficiency is the key.” Oh, wait! Maybe we should start by explaining who the heck is Banksy first of all? [Read more...] Who is Banksy? Banksy is a quasi-anonymous English graffiti artist. He’s gone from a teenage tagger to a well-known artist making multi-million dollar art. Can I buy one? According to Wikipedia, Banksy does not sell photos of street graffiti (why should anyone be interested in buying PHOTOS of graffiti in the first place?). Technique He mentions in his book, ‘Wall and Piece‘, that as he was starting to do graffiti that he was always too slow and was either caught or could never finish the art in the one sitting.

Enough of the theory, I’m sure most of you know more about him and will share it in the comment section. Opening Pandora's Box For the Second Time ur story starts with a guy named Rudy Rucker, an American mathematician, computer scientist and science fiction author (and in fact one of the founders of the cyberpunk science-fiction movement).

Around 20 years ago, along with other approaches, he first imagined the concept behind the potential 3D Mandelbulb (barring a small mistake in the formula, which nevertheless still can produce very interesting results - see later), and also wrote a short story about the 3D Mandelbrot in 1987 entitled "As Above, So Below" (also see his blog entry and notebook). Back then of course, the hardware was barely up to the task of rendering the 2D Mandelbrot, let alone the 3D version - which would require billions of calculations to see the results, making research in the area a painstaking process to say the least.

So the idea slumbered for 20 years until around 2007. Full size shown here. For other 'hot spots', try here, and this one from the inside. WOW! Thing in a Jar. Thing in a Jar 7 inches by 4 inches, mason jar Pictured above is the Thing in a Jar that's usually sitting in my office at work. The coolest thing about the Thing is that everyone responds to seeing it by asking questions. Where did I find it? The Thing in a Jar is made out of Sculpey, acryllic paint and rubber cement. This is the third Thing in a Jar I've made. Here's a conceptual sketch I made of this Thing before I sculpted it. 1.5 by 2.5 inches, ballpoint pen Usually when I make a Thing in a Jar, I try to keep the shape ambiguous enough so that the viewer cannot really pin down exactly what they're looking at.

The glass jar acts as a physical barrier, preventing the viewer from directly accessing its contents. I think this is much cooler than, for example, a painting, which basically has this big implicit sign hanging off of it that says, "I am just a painting of an object, not the object itself. Viewers of The Thing in a Jar do not have this preconception.

The Clanker Powers: Germany is a massive military machine with weapons aimed outwards to all surrounding countries. It points threateningly at Britain, not so much as a sign of direct aggression, but more as an indicator that it was now Germany’s turn to start a grand global Empire to challenge the world’s current one. Austria Hungary is an aggressive armoured giant, teetering on shoddy foundations. It is also the primary aggressor in a land grab against Serbia, with two bayonets piercing the border. The Ottoman empire is a teetering automaton, collapsing under the weight of a paranoid and ungainly spying network that gazes at Europe through many lenses and spy glasses.
