When it comes to advertising with videos on YouTube most companies are going about it entirely the wrong way. A lot of advertisers are stuck in the 30-secong television ad mentality and don’t know a thing about creating a promotional video that will go viral on the web. YouTube’s Hunter Walk gave a presentation to advertisers at Cannes and emphasized the importance of creating strong YouTube advertisements. He offered up a lot of great tips for advertisers and we’ve compiled them, along with some great viral advertising examples, to help your company create great advertisements for YouTube. Make Content, Not Commercials
I suffer from something called Ménière’s disease—don’t worry, you cannot get it from reading my blog. The symptoms of Ménière’s include hearing loss, tinnitus (a constant ringing sound), and vertigo. There are many medical theories about its cause: too much salt, caffeine, or alcohol in one’s diet, too much stress, and allergies. Thus, I’ve worked to limit control all these factors.
By Ty McMahan All venture capitalists have probably experienced a bad pitch from an entrepreneur. But a couple years ago, the team at Canaan Partners heard a real sleeper. No, we mean, a real sleeper . The chief executive and vice president of sales for a start-up company visited Canaan’s Menlo Park, Calif., office.
Editor’s note: Book rental startup Chegg is making money hand over fist. Guest author Steven Carpenter does a teardown of its business model and estimates its revenues will reach $130 million this year. Carpenter was the founder and CEO of Cake Financial , which was sold to E*Trade earlier this year. Previously, he’s written TC Teardowns on Groupon and Zynga . Chegg may very well be the fastest-growing, most successful, second-generation e-commerce startup that you hardly ever hear about, except maybe for the fact that it’s raised more than $140 million. Chegg is the “Netflix for textbooks.”

The traditional incandescent bulb makes a comeback That's the paradox of government regulation. You try to control something and wind up not getting what you intended. It's like trying to grasp running water in your hand. --> Conservatives were all upset when they learned of new federal energy requirements coming in 2012. Articles were written anticipating the ...
By PETER KING Oh, those text charges. No, not the fees for pecking out text messages on a cellphone, but the cost of every college student's must-buy: textbooks. Students spend about $1,000 a year on their texts, according to the College Board. And that most likely will increase: Over the past 20 years, textbook prices have increased at twice the inflation rate, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office.
You know how one thing leads to another? Well, that’s what happened with Osman Rashid, the co-founder and CEO of Kno, a Santa Clara, Calif.-based startup that’s publicly previewing its digital textbook platform and device (Kno) today. Rashid, who previously started Chegg, a Netflix-for-college-text-books service, was struck by the archaic nature of the whole college textbook experience. So he and lifelong friend Babur Habib started to wonder what it would be like if students could carry essentially their entire backpack in a single device, on which they could access textbooks, surf the web, scribble notes and even take exams. Better yet, what about turning this into a full-blown platform for education applications and at the same time, marry it to an e-book store?
