Why Masonic Scholars maintain the ‘fighting spirit’ to do that thing they do ...

In March 1918, Grand Lodge of Iowa Grand Historian Joseph E. Morcombe penned a letter to North American Universal Co-Freemasonry Grand Commander Louis Goaziou about a Brother who had expressed some “facts” to him about Masonic history. “Facts” that were verifiably wrong but to which the other Brother was weirdly attached. “Yet such as he are the leaders and light-givers of the brethren,” Morcombe wrote. In the same letter, Morcombe also doubted why he bothered to labor as a Masonic historian, surrounded as he was by so many “ignorant” brethren.

Black and white. That’s the first thing to strike the eye in the apron and cordon of the Fourth Degree. Its creation of harmony by the balance of opposites is the first statement of the great theme of the Scottish Rite; the essential philosophical and moral lesson of equilibrium.White is the color of purity and light; black is the color of mourning and death. And the Rite tells us that we should never forget we are always in the midst of death, that we should never postpone making amends, never leave disputes unresolved, never fail to do a kindness. But neither should we be morbid and focused on death. Jim Tresner, 33°, Grand Cross A question to contemplate and so enhance your understanding of this degree would be:"How do we decide how much confidentiality we owe to others?

Meeting old friends or making new ones seems part and parcel of the experience. Here, I want to briefly look at eight essential features that are necessary for building a Brotherhood, whether that’s a small, local group or larger but meaningful network. Lewis Masonic - What Is Counter Initiation?

Freemasons are bound together through their shared experience of Masonic initiation and through the morals of the fraternity, which is taught during the initiation. It is then, too, that he learns to orientate himself away from the petty distractions of life and toward what is essential to a healthy soul. Most especially, he is orientated towards the Great Architect or God. Yet, according to the Traditionalist school of thought, there is also the phenomenon of “counter-initiation.” Founded, during the first half of the twentieth century, by French metaphysician René Guénon, and shaped to a large extent by Sufi, spiritual teacher, author, and artist Frithjof Schuon, Traditionalism has had a small but significant impact on culture, subtly influencing Prince Charle’s book Harmony, for example. On a leafy street in the London suburb of Surbiton, a big white sign welcomes visitors to a masonic lodge for "men and women". The lodge is an imposing Edwardian mansion, down the stairs of which comes a white-haired man offering his hand to shake, which is a bit hurried on a cold, wintry morning, but not particularly funny. In the beginning, the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

One interpretation is that the Word represents the abstract essence of the ideal structures of information which form reality itself, the thoughts of the G.A.O.T.U., perhaps.
