The artwork of the Dutch artist Lotte Geeven is featured in Soda Palm Suite , a blissful book designed by Adriann Mellegers and Karen van de Kraats . I’m drawn to the theme of plants and flowers in Geeven’s work and how they are re-contextualized as graphic, shocking and absurd. “There are many ways of storytelling; I am researching storytelling with only these background details: the information in between. The way a whole city can unfold from a single detail and a landscape can grow around a single smell… (I’m) creating a net of landmarks… An abstract mental domain where the viewer is left as overwhelmed, unstable or surprised as I was.” – artist statement

Remedios Varo Biography Remedios Varo's storied life began in 1908 when she was born in Spain. She fled the Spanish Civil War and headed to Paris to further her artistry in Surrealism. The surrealist movement was strong there and she honed her skills along with painters who received more notoriety. The Nazi occupation of France forced Varo into exile. She made it out safe and in 1941 arrived in Mexico City where she remained the remainder of her life.

Tom Sachs takes New York City to Mars in his new immersive installation at the Park Avenue Armory, SPACE PROGRAM: MARS. For four weeks, the artist and a crew of thirteen will enact various missions and rituals as if on Mars, albeit a world of faux space suits, space ships, and craters, constructed of plywood, found junk, and several trips to the hardware store.
