How to Get Hesitant Teachers to Use Technology

In my consulting as well as administrative technology work, I am often asked the same questions by different schools and officials. One of the most common is: “How do you get teachers who are hesitant or resistant to use technology?” I am keenly aware that many of my colleagues are not, for various reasons, gung ho about educational technology. And it’s interesting. Quite often, the teachers who are hesitant to adopt new technology are great — in fact, amazing — educators. Girl on a swing. Photograph courtesy of Tracey Berry.

Today’s challenge was to write about how to use “positive self talk” to keep writing. I decided to share my entry here as well. I think we all struggle with voices that work against us whether as artists, writers or simply in life. Just because you buried him at sea yesterday doesn’t mean he won’t raise his ugly head today.

Childhood icons – How do you remember them?

I noticed them mostly through the eyes of my mother and the way she wished to conceal them. It wasn’t anything she said but I knew as a child, for her, leaving England was hard. I knew this when she painted the outside dunny can (toilet) blue, having read somewhere that spiders are repelled by blue, and placed it inside the shower. We were English and so we took baths, not showers. As a child, I was always entranced by relationships. We lived in a rectory on the main intersection of two highways, directly across the road was a night club. Our house was surrounded by car yards and industry. While mum tended her plants and the ever growing menagerie in the backyard, I wrote the facts and turned them into stories. Over time she adapted to the expectations of what it was to be Australian. While pondering this thought I received an invitation to attend the Memoir Club for Readers and Writers at Randwick Literary Institute. It was from my writing teacher Beth Yahp who ran the master course I took a few years ago. I was eager to attend. I expected a modern day library filled with books and a meeting room. So Long. Australian Organ Donor Register

Brain death is when blood flow to the brain stops. The brain stops functioning and dies with no possibility of recovery. A series of tests carried out by 2 independent and qualified senior doctors confirms that brain death has occurred. People are sometimes confused about the difference between brain death and being in a coma. Organ donation may also be possible after a person’s heart has stopped beating, referred to as cardiac death, but this is less common.

Tissue donors More people have the opportunity to donate tissue than organs. Unlike organs, tissue may be stored for a period of time and tissue donation does not require the donor’s death to have occurred under the same limited circumstances as organ donation. 2013 Poetry Postcard Project.
