OPAC The Computerized Catalogue has replaced the old Card Drawer System in libraries that have been computerized. It lets you browse items by author, title, subject, class or ISBN number and a Keyword search is included as well. Another major advantage of this service is that one can browse items not only pertaining to the library from where he/she is making the search but is automatically browsing all the material that is present in all the Public Libraries (and the National Library) both in Malta and Gozo. Clients are also informed of whether the item in question is available or is currently on loan, for example. Children's Toys and Games in the 40s Some of the games children played in the 1940s are still around today. Scrabble, for example, is still popular even though it was invented in 1948. Other games, however, have been mostly forgotten, such as one game involving balancing an orange on a spoon while trying to knock your opponent's own orange off.

Tux Paint Tux Paint is a free, award-winning drawing program for children ages 3 to 12 (for example, preschool and K-6). Tux Paint is used in schools around the world as a computer literacy drawing activity. It combines an easy-to-use interface, fun sound effects, and an encouraging cartoon mascot who guides children as they use the program. Kids are presented with a blank canvas and a variety of drawing tools to help them be creative. (See the full list of features.) October 12, 2017 - Tux Paint has switched from the rather old "CVS" version control system to the more modern "Git" one, for the purpoe of maintaining the project's source code, translations & localizations, and "stamps" artwork collection.

DIGITAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS: Tools and Technologies for Effective Classrooms Classrooms should be fundamentally thoughtful places, environments where students are taught a wide range of higher order conceptual skills to complement the traditional basics of reading, writing, and computation. ~ Terry Roberts, Director of the National Paideia Center Learning is the Adventure of What Can Be How do you think your students would take to becoming an animation movie producer and director? Can you think of ways in which your students could use the animation creator to focus on their ideas? "If you can type, you can make a movie," is their slogan. Teachers can create lesson presentations in a new way and students can present their own stories, scripts, and research in a unique setting. You choose from different pre-drawn actors and backgrounds, and can also set different emotions of the characters throughout the movie. Then, just type in what you want each character to say. There are a couple of downsides: 1) It costs to create an education account; 2) The characters speak with computerized voices which do not sound normal at all. This is different from most online movie creators which are more a mash-up of pictures and sound clips and may be an interesting alternative. From Inspiring Teachers by pebble Oct 25
