The apartment is simple, affordable and homey, near the Arno River and the Ponte Vecchio, and an easy walk to all of the sites of Florence. The ground floor location meant there were no stairs to negotiate with luggage, although the bedrooms are in lofts, so you do need to be able to walk up small spiral stairs for your well earned rest. Barbara, whom we booked the apartment with, is a very good communicator, personable and kind. She assisted us not only prior to our arrival, but she also helped us settle into knowing the neighborhood. Our family really appreciated the kitchen, which allowed us to have breakfast at "home" every morning, and we loved being near the gardens.

It lies on a small piece of land that juts out into the sea. It can be reached by boat from Italy or by bus/train connections through nearby Rijeka or Kanfanar. I was there in the summer months. The sun was shining the whole time, and it was hot, which made for a great relaxing atmosphere. You can spend many hours walking the harbor, wandering the gorgeous back streets and looking at the architecture, soaking up the incredible views, and exploring its hilltop church. There are no sand beaches there, but you will see lots of visitors from other European countries enjoying the sun on the rocks and flat stones next to the sea. Rovinj is very visitor-friendly because the accomodations are not too expensive, the food is good, and you can wander the little brightly-colored streets all day. There are many day-trip possibilities from Rovinj to nearby islands and towns.
