Open Source Ecology

I apologize for the lack of frequent reporting as we are going through ‘growing pains.’ We are busy recruiting for this whole ecology of positions . We had a large number of interviews ( 30+ recorded on our YouTube channel ) and are going at it strong. I am working on the 2 year plan , with a highlight of bootstrap-funding our staff by the fruits of production. http://opensourceecology.org/

Kounkuey Design Initiative

http://basmozambique.wordpress.com/ A translation of the Dezeen article was published in Japanese at Design Channel here . We just got these photos sent from Aid Global representative Filipe Galvão showing the usage of the two school rooms today. Mainly they are being used by the young children in Chimundo. They have lessons here with teachers and their afternoon nap in the shadows offered of the building. It warms our hearts to see the children we were working with enjoying and making use of their new spaces. This article was published in the local newspaper Bergens Tidene just after we arrived back in Norway.

TYIN tegnestue

UKUMBI NGO

Using architecture to mitigate poverty Ukumbi ry is a Finnish non-governmental organisation established in 2007 by three Finnish architects. Saija Hollmén, Jenni Reuter and Helena Sandman have all extensive experience of development cooperation projects in several African countries. In the course of their work they realised that culturally knowledgeable and skilfully designed architecture is a tool that can be used to improve the living conditions of communities and to mitigate poverty. The mission of Ukumbi is to offer architectural planning and design for underprivileged groups. Often such groups include women, children or young people whose opportunities for participation in society are limited. http://www.hollmenreutersandman.com/ukumbi.php
