In preparation for Refugee Week 2012 we are looking for refugees who are/will be contributing to making this year’s Olympics in London a success. Their stories will form the backbone of this year’s media and promotional campaign for Refugee Week. Every year the contributions made by refugees to the UK are celebrated and for this year we want to highlight the contributions made in the context of the Olympics.

ICAR

ICAR has now existed for 10 years and in that time a great deal has changed in the asylum and refugee debates. There is a wide range of information now available on the subject, and a number of resources have recently formed looking at wider immigration issues. In this time of austerity and cuts to charitable funding it has simply not been possible to raise enough money to keep the ICAR web site updated. Runnymede is optimistic about the future of research into asylum and refugee policies and will continue to pursue ICAR's mission of producing impartial information and research on these issues.

It began as the European Consultation on Refugees and Exiles , an informal platform of five refugee-assisting NGOs. At the time, people were fleeing the Soviet Union and were welcomed by Western Europeans as they crossed the Iron Curtain.
