Apple Shaped Cupcakes

With apple cards, candy apples, yarn apples, I can’t seem to get enough. Well, as I was browsing Pinterest, which I’m addicted to, I came across this post from Muses of Megret on baking your cupcakes into Valentine hearts. It’s such a cute and clever way to bake these! It sparked a thought that this method would also make the perfect shape for an apple as well. So here are apple cupcakes, cute as ever! Millionaire's Shortbread. Since one half of the blue-eyed baking squad is currently blogging from waaaay across the pond in London, we figured we'd bake you lovely duckies a British treat.

Millionaire's Shortbread

Shortbread. Millionaire's shortbread (ooooh aaaah). Don't get too excited. There's no money in this crumbly deliciousness. But there is crumbly deliciousness which counts for something right? Right. So there's shortbread, which is rather tasty on its own, and v v British. Just go with it. And THEN to transform it into Millionaire's Shortbread (ooooh ahhhh), you slather the aforementioned crumbly deliciousness in caramel and chocolate. We know. It's ok, just go slow, eat some melted chocolate along the way to keep your strength up, and you'll do just fine. And then, you can have as many pieces of the crumbly deliciousness slathered in the caramel and the chocolate as you want. We totally hit the jackpot. Alcoholic Soaked Gummy Bears. Better-Than-Crack-Brownies

I really am. But see, last Friday while I was on a 10-hour road trip heading for vacation, I received this recipe from a reader named Liz. Chocolate Cupcakes with Flaming Strawberries. Call me easily amused, but these little torch-topped cupcakes delight me.

Chocolate Cupcakes with Flaming Strawberries

Besides being a cute novelty item for a party, I think they would add a little drama to the end of a romantic meal. I've been looking for something different to serve for Valentine's dessert, and this is definitely different. The strawberries are hollowed out and filled with a bit of liquor, then ignited with a match. For the cake portion, I chose a One Bowl Chocolate Cupcake recipe because 1. it's quick 2. it is easy, and 3. it fits my prerequisite for a light ending on date night.

I should say, a light ending provided you don't eat too many. The cakes are just sweet enough, and have a light, fluffy crumb - the perfect vehicle for rich chocolate buttercream. Notes for flaming strawberries:Any alcohol below 80 proof will not ignite well. Shaina made a margarita version of this on Babble Food. April 8th, 2007 It’s Easter time, are you in for a seasonal baking treat?

Easter Egg Cakes

Here’s a great and fun alternative to hard boiled eggs… Some trivia: Have you ever wondered what determines the color of a chicken egg shell? It’s all about the earlobes. Well, almost, it depends on whether or not the chicken is a purebred. Poke a tiny whole in the bottom side of the egg by using a needle or an egg poker. Clean the shells in cold water and prepare a bowl with salt water (dissolve 100g of salt in about 1l of water), fully immerse the egg shell, make sure there’s no air trapped inside. Baking prep: A muffin tray works great, use little pieces of aluminum foil to form rings, which will help the eggs to stand upright during the filling and baking process. In a large bowl beat the soft butter together with the sugar until the sugar has dissolved, then add three eggs. Divide the batter into two separate bowls. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Happy Easter to all of you!!! Bicolored Easter eggs 100g white sugar.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dip. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dip It’s time for a little confession.

I realize this may get me shunned (especially in my hometown of Pittsburgh!) Cinnamon Sugar Pull-Apart Bread. I’m sorry.

Cinnamon Sugar Pull-Apart Bread

I know it’s Monday morning and you probably came here for some pretty pictures of food that you could glance at, and then move on with your day… and here I go thrusting warm, soft cinnamon sugar bread in your face. It’s not fair. I know it’s not fair. I know that now you’re craving cinnamon rolls, and cream cheese frosting and chili fries and hot dogs. I am too… and I already ate half of this warm bread.

You don’t deserve this sort of torture. This bread hits all the comfort spots in my soul.
