Hog Wild: Factory Farms are Poisoning Iowa's Drinking Water. Hog Wild: Factory Farms are Poisoning Iowa's Drinking Water Millions of pigs are crammed into overcrowded barns all across the state, being fattened for slaughter while breeding superbugs—all to feed China's growing appetite for Spam. Before I even stepped from my truck onto the gravel outside the New Fashion Pork hog confinement facility, Emily Erickson, the company’s animal well-being and quality assurance manager, handed me a pair of stretchy white plastic footies to put over my shoes.
It was a blustery day in September, the sky threatening snow—the first hint of winter, when cold, dry air stabilizes viruses and biosecurity becomes a topmost concern. All of the hogs inside the confinement near Jackson, Minnesota, just north of the Iowa state line and on the headwaters of the Des Moines River, would be sold to Hormel Foods. Hormel would soon post record profits on the strength of sales of Spam to Asian markets and the expansion of the company’s China operations. Nearly Same Acreage Planted as Refuge Farmers Switched to Less Damaging, Non-GE Crops When a federal court ordered an end to planting of genetically engineered (GE) crops on all National Wildlife Refuges in the Southeastern U.S. last year, several refuge managers predicted that continued farming would be impossible. A year later, however, farmers are planting nearly the same acreage in Southeastern refuges as the year before – all without GE crops, according to agency records assembled by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER), which brought that successful lawsuit together with the Center for Food Safety (CFS). Although the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS), which operates national wildlife refuges, has a “Biological Integrity” policy forbidding GE crops unless found “essential to accomplishing refuge purpose(s)”, their use is often approved. The principal justification FWS relies upon is that non-GE seeds are not available.

Why Organic Seed? | OSGATA. Access to Genetic Diversity. The consolidation of seed resources and massive loss of genetic diversity is counteracted by organic seed producers. Over the last century thousands of local varieties of seed have disappeared. The Food and Agricultural Organizations of the United Nations estimates that nearly 75% of genetic diversity has been lost during that time (www.ifoam.org).
The consolidation of the US seed industry continues at an alarming rate with much of the seed industry controlled by 6 big companies. We need to maintain a healthy, vibrant organic seed industry to offer growers and consumers a choice. Stronger Seed, Stronger Crops. Conventional Seed Farming Uses More Chemicals. Selective Enforcement by USDA Alleged — Kid Glove Treatment for Dean Foods/WhiteWave In an open letter published today and addressed to USDA National Organic Program chief Miles McEvoy, The Cornucopia Institute accused the regulatory agency of abdicating its enforcement responsibilities.
Cornucopia, an organic industry watchdog, charged that the USDA had allowed Dean Foods and its WhiteWave subsidiary to, allegedly, operate a giant factory farm dairy that has been illegally disadvantaging the nation’s family-scale dairy producers. The Cornucopia Institute also filed, on February 11, its third formal legal complaint alleging Dean/WhiteWave’s giant industrial dairy, located in Paul, Idaho has continued to operate illegally. “We’re hoping that third time’s a charm,” said Cornucopia’s Senior Farm Policy Analyst, Mark Kastel. Meanwhile, a select group of “fresh, high producing cows,” being milked four times a day, were being entirely confined until their production levels dropped.

Share by: JB Bardot Diatomaceous earth (DE) is a naturally occurring rock made from the skeletons of fossilized diatoms, a type of hard-shelled algae. When ground into a fine powder, diatomaceous earth works mechanically to destroy a wide range of pests, insects, parasites and pathogens by cutting through the exoskeleton, absorbing bodily fluids and causing them to die. Food grade diatomaceous earth is chemical-free and non toxic. Diatomaceous earth has many uses including detoxification of the body — inside and out; protecting pets and livestock from parasites and insect infestation; and keep your yard and garden pest-free.
Detoxing Add diatomaceous earth to your diet to detox parasites that can contribute to food intolerance, nausea, bowel discomfort, pain, itching, asthma, sinus infections, Morgellon’s disease, and a host of other allergic-type reactions. To consume DE orally, start with half a teaspoon and work up to two heaping tablespoons. Protect grains and dry goods Yard and garden. The Great American Genocide | We’ve reached the point that any person with critical thinking skills can no longer deny that we are being deliberately poisoned. Nearly everything that is reasonably priced to eat or drink is actually toxic. The glowing health claims and the stamps of approval from the EPA, the FDA, and USDA, are fraudulent smoke and mirrors – people are actually being deceived into spending money to purchase the substances that will lead to disease and demise.
A chemical warfare has been declared on us. The battlefields are our homes, the grocery stores, the pharmacies. This is genocide, and we are the intended victims. As early as 1974 food became the top weapon of the United Nations in a stealthy war waged on the citizens of the world. Turning on the tap in many places releases a toxic stream into your glass or your shower. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. Don't let Monsanto take this one away. Dear Organic Consumer, Last year this time, you were pouring your heart and soul into winning the GMO labeling battle in California. So was I. With three weeks to go before the election, victory was so close we could almost taste it. Then Monsanto snatched it away. Please make a generous donation today to help us win this year’s key GMO labeling battle in Washington State. Twelve months later, here we are again. But we’re facing the same enemy. We are ahead in the polls in Washington State. We need to run more ads. Tomorrow, the ballots will be mailed. Once again, victory is so close we can taste it. But our experts in Washington State are clear: I-522 is not in the bag. This has always been a David versus Goliath battle. We need to win this one. Thank you! Ronnie Cummins on Turning the Tide Against Monsanto. By Dr. Mercola Between October 18 and November 5 the next big GMO-labeling vote will take place in the United States; this time in Washington State, where citizens will cast their votes for the people's initiative 522, "The People's Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act. " Initiative 522 (I-522) will require seeds, raw agricultural commodities, and processed foods to be labeled if they’re produced using genetic engineering.1The success of this ballot initiative is dependent on public donations, and we’re up against industry giants with very deep pockets, so please, help us win this key GMO labeling battle and continue to build momentum for GMO labeling in other states by making a donation to the Organic Consumers Fund (OCF) today. “We need to get these crops off the market or marginalized.

There are currently 82,000 synthetic chemicals in the foods we eat, the toys our children touch, the products we use to clean our homes, the air we breathe, and the cosmetics we apply to our skin—and only a fraction have ever been tested for safety. What do we really know about how they affect our health? If so few have actually been tested, how can any company claim that their chemical-laden products are actually safe? If some chemical levels are considered “acceptable,” what happens when these chemicals react to each other inside of us? Finding answers can be overwhelming.

The Great American Genocide | A complete list of artificial ingredients. | Wake Up and Unite. Scientists Link Monsanto’s Glyphosate To Birth Defects. By Arjun Walia Another credible study can be added to the list of research that shows how Monsanto’s glyphosate, otherwise known as ’roundup herbicide’ can be hazardous to human health. This time, its been linked to birth defects. Roundup, also known as Glyphosate is a herbicide used to kill weeds. It started to be used en mass by farmers when they realized they could spray it without killing their crops.
Of course these are herbicide resistant genetically modified (GMO) crops that have been designed to be resistant to the herbicide. A group of scientists put together a comprehensive review of existing data that shows how European regulators have known that Monsanto’s glyphosate causes a number of birth malformations since at least 2002. Regulators misled the public about glyphosate’s safety, and in Germany the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety told the European Commission that there was no evidence to suggest that glyphosate causes birth defects(3).
Non-GMO Project. How to avoid GM foods. Just say no to those GMOs! A guide to avoiding genetically modified (GM) foods Why avoid GM foods? Hardly any research into the safety of GM foods has been published in the normal peer reviewed scientific literature in the last 15 years and these foods have had NO long term safety testing. GM foods contain randomly inserted genes from foreign organisms.
These often include genetic elements of viruses and bacteria. In some cases an antibiotic resistant gene is also included. In the case of the biggest GM food crop, Monsanto's GM soya there are genes from a virus, a soil bacterium and a petunia, none of which have been in human food before. These foods may have unpredictable side efffects including allergenic or toxic properties. According to geneticist Dr Mae-Wan Ho, “The soil bacterium [in GM soya], Agrobacterium sp.
