Update, 12 May 2010: My new book, One Love, Ghoema Beat: Inside the Cape Town Carnival , is now available in South Africa (where it's published by Random House Struik). Ask for it at any bookstore. It will soon be available in North America, as well (where the University of Virginia Press is the publisher). It's a bright, colorful, and informative look behind the scenes of the Cape Town New Year's Carnival.

Graca CapeTown Comedy Showdown 2011

It is very cliche to complain about Monday. For some it is the worst day of the week. The first day of the week where we have to deal with life. I study part-time and I made a rule. No studying on Monday. The day is bad as it is.

Cape Town Airshow Ysterplaat 2010 | Air Shows South Africa

http://www.capetownmagazine.com/ysterplaat-airshow South Africa's biggest air show at Ysterplaat in Cape Town provides great airborne entertainment in 2010 in its last year! Africa’s largest aerospace, defence, and security exhibition is moving to what many have called the world’s most beautiful city. Africa Aerospace & Defence – AAD 2010– will be held for the last time in Cape Town from 21 - 25 September 2010. The 2010 Ysterplaat Airshow programme is difficult to structure precisely due to the nature of an air show, but you can expect to be wowed all day long by spectacular airborne trickery from some of the world’s greatest airplanes.

New Year’s Eve parties

Choose a short, descriptive name for the 'Event Title' Events get tweeted all the time. It is therefore wize to add a HashTag as part of the Title where possible. An example of this would be: Event Title: #NewYears party at #MustangBarCT It is not necessary to add the #CapeEvent or #CapeTown tags as these get added automatically to all our Events before being tweeted. http://whatsupcapetown.com/capecalendar/event/world-squash-day-ladies-day/

This sort of information is always done to death on the local interwebs, but even after numerous big events there still remains a subsection of the stadium-visiting public who reckon they should be able to drive up to the stadium gates, park by the turnstiles and simply pop in – and then get pissed off and whine a lot when they can’t: the message just never quite seems to get through. Getting 50,000-plus people in and out of any stadium is never going to be completely straightforward. There will always be some issues – hopefully minor ones – but these problems can be avoided if more people know what to expect ahead of time.
