Update, 12 May 2010: My new book, One Love, Ghoema Beat: Inside the Cape Town Carnival , is now available in South Africa (where it's published by Random House Struik). Ask for it at any bookstore. It will soon be available in North America, as well (where the University of Virginia Press is the publisher). It's a bright, colorful, and informative look behind the scenes of the Cape Town New Year's Carnival.
It is very cliche to complain about Monday. For some it is the worst day of the week. The first day of the week where we have to deal with life. I study part-time and I made a rule. No studying on Monday. The day is bad as it is.
South Africa's biggest air show at Ysterplaat in Cape Town provides great airborne entertainment in 2010 in its last year! Africa’s largest aerospace, defence, and security exhibition is moving to what many have called the world’s most beautiful city. Africa Aerospace & Defence – AAD 2010– will be held for the last time in Cape Town from 21 - 25 September 2010. The 2010 Ysterplaat Airshow programme is difficult to structure precisely due to the nature of an air show, but you can expect to be wowed all day long by spectacular airborne trickery from some of the world’s greatest airplanes.
December: the office is [hopefully] closed and the party’s just begun! Enjoy the city’s pristine beaches, rooftop restaurants, sunset hikes up the mountain, and if none of that tickles your fancy, we’ve got all the biggest annual events happening in Cape Town and surrounds. From summer concerts to flying contraption competitions, December has it all. When you’re not having fun in the sun, indulging in Christmas festivities or preparing your liver for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day celebrations in the Mother City, take a gander at what else is happening during the month of December.
Our annual Christmas Carols Concert is an eagerly awaited festive season highlight for many Constantia Valley residents and visitors alike. This year, we will once again spread some early Christmas cheer with our open-air sunset concert on the lawns in front of the hotel, taking place from 18:00 to 20:00 on Wednesday 21 December. We’re thrilled to announce that the superb Cape Town String Ensemble will be headlining the bill for a second year running.
If your plans for ringing in 2012 include having fun, fun and more fun, we have just the right list of parties to ensure that happens. Enjoy the countdown on December 31, 2011 at the following fabulous events: New Year's Eve Concert and Fireworks Display This is an oldie but a goodie as the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre plays host to a variety of top local bands and a brilliant fireworks display at the stroke of midnight.
Choose a short, descriptive name for the 'Event Title' Events get tweeted all the time. It is therefore wize to add a HashTag as part of the Title where possible. An example of this would be: Event Title: #NewYears party at #MustangBarCT It is not necessary to add the #CapeEvent or #CapeTown tags as these get added automatically to all our Events before being tweeted.
This sort of information is always done to death on the local interwebs, but even after numerous big events there still remains a subsection of the stadium-visiting public who reckon they should be able to drive up to the stadium gates, park by the turnstiles and simply pop in – and then get pissed off and whine a lot when they can’t: the message just never quite seems to get through. Getting 50,000-plus people in and out of any stadium is never going to be completely straightforward. There will always be some issues – hopefully minor ones – but these problems can be avoided if more people know what to expect ahead of time.
