Land-use regulation is still needed, but zoning increasingly has become a conceptually inappropriate term, an obsolete characterization of how we plan and shape growth.” - Roger K. Lewis Zoning, a concept just over a century old, is already becoming an outdated system by which the government regulates development and growth. Exceptions and loopholes within current zoning legislation prove that city planning is pushing a zoning transformation that reflects the current and future goals and needs of city building.
To determine how zoning and land use needs to evolve we must first assess the intentions of future city building. Planners, architects, legislators and community activists have already begun establishing guidelines and ordinances that approach the goals of sustainability and livability. So what is it about current zoning codes that makes it so outdated? Audi Urban Future Initiative: The state of our urbanized world. A few days ago we had the chance to attend the Audi Urban Future Awards, where 5 young and innovative practices presented their visions on the future of mobility for five of the world’s most intense urban regions: Boston/Washington Area (USA), Mumbai (India), Sao Paulo (Brasil), Istanbul (Turkey) and the Pearl River Delta region (China).
The Audi Urban Future Award went to Höweler + Yoon and their proposal for BosWash, a new mega region that connects commuters and center through a new intelligent infrastructure, a project that Audi has committed to push forward. These regions deal with the most important issues that cities are facing in the urban era: the dilemma between density and sprawl, opportunities, transportation, long term versus fast growth, energy, infrastructure, and as we have seen in the last days, the natural environment.

Cornelis van Eesteren. Levensloop[bewerken] Prix de Rome[bewerken] Mendelsohn. Mossehuis, Berlijn. In juni 1921 nam Van Eesteren deel aan de Prix de Rome voor architectuur. Hiervoor had hij drie maanden de tijd een ontwerp te maken van een 'Koninklijk Instituut van Wetenschappen, Letterkunde en Schoone Kunsten' aan de Amstel.[8] Hij won de eerste plaats en zijn ontwerpen werden van 25 december tot en met 1 januari 1922 tentoongesteld in de Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam.
Naar aanleiding hiervan schreef hij de notitie 'mij is de Prix de Rome toegekend', waarin hij het stedenbouwkundige probleem in relatie tot het moderne leven beschrijft en concludeert dat, ondanks het pionierswerk van Berlage, er nog steeds geen bruikbare theorie aangaande dit probleem bestond. Plzeňští architekti jsou zváni na diskuzi s oceněnými a odměněnými soutěžními týmy. V publiku se objeví také zástupci města, porotci a ostatní soutěžící. Soutěž uspořádalo město Plzeň v souvislosti s přípravou nového územního plánu. Vernisáž výstavy návrhů urbanistické soutěže „Plzeň – vnitřní město“ proběhne v pátek 8. 6. 2012 v 15hod. v Atriu Měšťanské besedy v Plzni. Katalog Ideová veřejná anonymní jednokolová urbanistická soutěž Vyhlašovatel: statutární město Plzeň Město Plzeň připravuje zpracování nového územního plánu města, který musí být schválen do roku 2015.
