Planet Waves | Goddesses of Astrology by Eric Francis. IN GREEK AND ROMAN TIMES, there were 12 primary deities, an evenly divided committee of gods and goddesses who represented different attributes of the human psyche. We know that our mythological models are really pictures of how we think of ourselves, and how we play our cultural games.

So is it any surprise that in the prevailing Western model of astrology, we have the six Olympian gods, but only two of the goddesses? This presents problems for astrology, but it also reflects a problem in the world. Imagine if our only two images of man were Daddy and Sexmonger (or Lawyer). What would a guy put on his résumé for college professor? "Hot in bed and likes kids? " This is the problem with our astrological picture of women, and our corresponding cultural one. Venus, who gets oversimplified like a lot of her sisters, is one of the most complex planets going: she works as an attractive force and as a creative one.

Luna is not just mommy. But there is more to women than this. Two Little Points. Full Moon Meditation. Lunar Meditation Cycles Lunar Cycles At the time of the full moon, over a period of five days, the moon and the planet Earth are the recipients of more reflected light from the sun than at any other time. Symbolically speaking, the period of the most intense meditation of our Planetary Logos comes around at the full moon period each month.

This produces the inflow of radiance and energy, both subjective and objective, to Earth. The veils that separate the higher from the lower are at their thinnest at the time of the full moon because the moon is out of the way, so to speak, and the work of disciples on the mental plane is facilitated as they are then able to meditate more successfully and to attain realization with greater ease. In the words of the Tibetan Master Djwhal Khul: The spirit of Invocation, of longing for and reaching for contact with higher beings is strengthened at Full Moon. So it is the sun's motion, not the moon's, which provides spiritual direction at this time. Glen Knape. ZODIACAL DEITIES. Astrology Zodiac Signs and Angels.

It can represent, on different levels, both the ego and the higher Self or soul purpose. It rules Leo and is exalted in Aries. The Sun is the most important 'planet' in the chart and symbolizes one's will and sense of vitality. When the Sun is afflicted (poorly placed or poorly aspected) it could indicate problems with the father, or male role model. The Sun energizes your entire chart, and planets in close relationship to the Sun (by planetary aspect) are emphasized in your personality. More about the Sun... " Communication, Commerce, and Everyday Routines The astrological planet Mercury, named for the wing-footed Roman god of "communications, commerce, and everyday routines," seldom gets much attention in astrology. Sexual Astrology: Eros. Astrology of Sex: Eros in the Natal chart Sexuality & Astrology How can we interpret a person's sexual nature using their natal chart? Because sexuality is complex, there isn't a simple formula for determining an individual's sexual preferences, fantasies, and styles of sexual expression. Although instinct certainly plays a role, human sexuality is made complex by our intelligence and the role of society, as sexuality is primarily a social behavior.

A major element of our sexuality comes under the domain of Mars. When exploring the astrology of sexuality, I keep in mind that the entire chart of an individual is involved, but there are some factors that tend to play a larger role than others. Mars. Venus. Scientists have made impressive gains recently when it comes to reading minds.

For instance, through brain scans, researchers can tell what number a person has just seen, figure out what letters a person wants to type, and determine where people were standing within virtual reality environments. To see if they could discern even more complex information during mind-reading, scientists more recently had 10 volunteers watch three films, each seven-seconds long and featuring a different actress in a fairly similar everyday scenario on a typical urban street. For instance, in one movie, a woman rifled through her purse to find an envelope she then dropped into a mailbox, while in another, an actress finished her cup of coffee, which she then dropped into a trashcan.

Participants watched the films 15 times. In these experiments, the researchers exposed volunteers to movies roughly an hour before scanning took place. Me, Myself and My Stranger: Understanding the Neuroscience of Selfhood. Where are you right now? Maybe you are at home, the office or a coffee shop—but such responses provide only a partial answer to the question at hand. Asked another way, what is the location of your "self" as you read this sentence? Like most people, you probably have a strong sense that your conscious self is housed within your physical body, regardless of your surroundings. But sometimes this spatial self-location goes awry.

During a so-called out-of-body experience, for example, one's self seems to be transported outside the physical body into a surreal perspective—some people even believe they are viewing their bodies from above, as though their true selves were floating. A new paper offers examples of rare bodily illusions that are not confined to a single limb, nor are they complete out-of-body experiences—they are somewhere in between. [2010] Ecstasy Helps Treat PTSD Patients, Trial Finds. Ecstasy tablets. AP People suffering from the agony of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may one day find relief with Ecstasy. A small clinical trial found that 80 percent of participants treated with a combination of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) and psychotherapy no longer showed signs of PTSD, with no serious side effects. Three people who also said the disorder prevented them from going to work were able to return to their jobs after the treatment. The study is the first completed clinical trial evaluating MDMA as a therapeutic adjunct since it was criminalized in 1985 owing to recreational use of the drug, known by its street name Ecstasy. Twenty patients who had suffered with chronic PTSD for an average of more than 19 years and who had not obtained relief from both psychotherapy and psychopharmacology were randomly assigned to two eight-hour psychotherapy sessions, with 12 subjects receiving the drug and eight receiving a placebo.

But there is a lot of suffering. I hung up the phone with a friend just a few minutes ago. In a coffee shop this afternoon, everyone at every table was talking about climate change. Katrina, Irene, Sandy, droughts all summer, busted corn crops, water shortages in the southwest: it's hard to believe we aren't seeing what the climate scientists predicted. It feels ironic and sad.
