http://hint.fm/wind/ An invisible, ancient source of energy surrounds us—energy that powered the first explorations of the world, and that may be a key to the future. This map shows you the delicate tracery of wind flowing over the US. The wind map is a personal art project, not associated with any company. We've done our best to make this as accurate as possible, but can't make any guarantees about the correctness of the data or our software. Please do not use the map or its data to fly a plane, sail a boat, or fight wildfires :-)

Welcome to Project Sentry Gun, home to the most versatile sentry gun system on the web! On this site we have published complete directions on how to make your own sentry gun, which autonomously tracks, aims, and shoots at targets, using: An airsoft or paintball gun A webcam to find targets A computer to process the video feed and aim the gun Servo motors aim the gun and squeeze the trigger A controller to interface between the computer and the servo motors We are a unique project in that everything we do is completely open-source. This includes 100% of our code , as well as our electrical schematics , and even the CAD design files for our Standalone Controller . Our system has been used on six continents and in more than 20 countries (so far), and is even used by the Australian Navy in their training program.

machining

http://blog.cnccookbook.com/category/cool/ Browsing articles in " Cool " I came across this article on the 1911 Forum and it scratches two itches: - I’m a major 1911 fan–it’s my favorite handgun to shoot. - It’s always a treat to see a machinist go crazy and do something custom that mere mortals don’t have access to. Fellow machinists: that’s one reason we like to be machinists, is it not? For the full article, go to the link above. Meanwhile, here’s a few “teaser” photos: Milling.

design & make

http://jmillerid.com/wordpress/ This one has been a long time coming. Ever since we moved into our new house I’ve been slowly turning our unfinished, unheated two-car garage into a respectable workshop… insulation, drywall, lighting, heat, climate control, etc. etc. I’ve put a lot of effort into the “bones” of the space but I’ve been hesitating to start building the work surfaces and storage. In a way it’s good that it took three years to do this, because in that time I’ve gotten to know the space through cold and hot, from woodworking and welding to painting and machining.

print When selecting cutting tools for a job, the first thing to consider is what type of operation needs to be performed. Here is a quick description of the basic cutting tools most often used in milling operations. A drill is used to create a round, cylindrical hole in a workpiece. Drilled holes can be "through holes" or "blind holes".
