The effect is achieved by using software to digitally stitch together a series of photos. Outdoor vertical panoramas definitely present additional challenges as lighting can easily change between shots. Off to Flickr I went where thousands of search results appeared. The most popular use for the HRM seems to be for exercising at a percentage of Maximum Heart Rate (MHR). There are formulae that claim to be able to calculate this maximum rate, but I have yet to see a result that was even close to being accurate. The most popular of these formulae is 220 minus age.
