Grid A grid can be a great way to display art if you have a few pictures of the same size. When hanging pictures in a grid formation treat them as one large picture. This also applies when hanging a pair of artworks, either one above the other or side by side.Try to get a sense of the proportions and see it within the context of all the other elements in the room.Leave a gap of 5cm between larger pictures and 4cm if they’re smaller.Top Tip: Loop a thread at one end and secure a weight to the other end.
Once you have attached the top row of hooks or nails to the wall, hang the thread on it. That way, you can have a straight line to guide you and ensure that you align the lower rows exactly in line with those above. The original source seems to be Black & White Photography by Rand and Litschel. It presents you to the world and, if you’re a freelancer, tends to play a major role in whether or not people choose to hire you. Because of my role as the editor of Design Shack, I’ve viewed a ton of online portfolios and today I’d like to walk through some of the weaknesses I see time and time again. I have been thinking about how the ideas for a potential photography project are formed in the mind. The following is a jumbled list of how the creative process works in my mind. It may not be correct or complete but it’s where I am at with my understanding of the creative process. Probably the first thing to say is – photography is not about photography, it is about life in all its wonderful diversity. And secondly to quote John Barry (Composer) – the worst thing you can do is, fall in love with the first idea you have. Notice the word “process”, ideas do not spring to life in a creative vacuum. I could start thinking about my project at the beginning, middle or the end. So I would start by deciding when the project has been completed – what needs to have happened. Now you can think about potential ideas for your project the who, what why, when etc.
