Web-Apps werden über den Browser von Smartphones, Tablets oder Computern aufgerufen und verhalten sich wie lokal installierte Programme. Da sie im Browser laufen, erfordern sie kein bestimmtes Betriebsystem. Unter Umständen verlangen sie aber einen bestimmten Browser oder Plugins wie beispielweise Flash. Eine Stärke von Web-Apps ist die Möglichkeit, Daten mit anderen zu teilen oder sogar gemeinsam bearbeiten zu können.
