It covers how to set-up 2-tone light angled shaders, apply them to a character, and also how to add plug textures into them. Tutorial assumes that you already have an understanding of Maya and can navigate around the software. A basic understanding of Photoshop is also required for texturing. 12 Basic Principles of Animation: The illusion of lifeComputer Graphics. The 12 basic principles of animation were developed by the ‘old men’ of Walt Disney Studios, amongst them Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, during the 1930s : The Illusion of Life: Disney Animation.
Of course they weren’t old men at the time, but young men who were at the forefront of exciting discoveries that were contributing to the development of a new art form. These principles came as a result of reflection about their practice and through Disney’s desire to use animation to express character and personality. This movie is my personal take about those principles, applied to simple shapes.

Maya Mental Ray Depth of Field (DOF) render passes Tutorial. Creating Depth Of Field Using Maya Z-Depth Passes And Photoshop.
Depth of field can prove to be a very effective way to add an overall sense of depth to your final renders, and also helps to draw the viewers focus to a specific area of the image (similar to a real world camera.)
In this short tutorial Pratik Gulati, will cover the process of setting up and rendering out Z-Depth passes from Maya, which can later be combined with the beauty pass in Photoshop, to achieve a realistic DOF effect. The gray values within a depth pass represent the distance from the camera, where white is near and black is far. The range in Maya units that this represents is based on the rendered camera's clipping planes. For this tutorial, I’ll be using Maya 2011 but the steps can be easily followed in both older and newer versions of Maya too. Step 1 So the first thing to do is open your program.
Step 2. Making of Forgotten Forest. In this tutorial I will discuss how we created these leaves and what things need to think or remember when creating a forest like this.
Bundle Configuration This is the final configuration of the levels of the grass. These are the settings of one bundle of five different levels, but for best results you will need to create more than 5 different bundles. We will be using the Grass Carpet paint FX for the creation of the bundles, first of all we have to analyze the geometry that we need, the square form of the geometry would work, but it doesn’t have the best results, because when we assemble the parts will create an intersection and it will have a pattern that is going to be visible, and we want an uniform patch of grass. Wrong Form Correct Form If you want to make the circle you should make the configuration of all the 5 levels of the bundles, and after that convert each level of faces and remove the remaining faces outside the circle.
Character Modeling and Sculpting in Maya and Mudbox Tutorial. Becas para artistas UNESCO – Aschberg. Maya Downloads. This is an animation tool I wrote for Maya that provides a different approach to ghosting/onion-skinning in 3D.
I was watching a recording of a live lecture with Jason Ryan (Dreamworks/iAnimate) when a student asked him if he used ghosting when animating in 3D. He mentioned a couple of reasons why he usually doesn't, even though he uses the lightbox feature all the time when animating in 2D. I realised I feel the same way about any 3D ghosting solutions I've tried.
One problem is that they slow the scene down usually, and another is that they are not that easy to see in the viewport, usually being a faded version of the mesh or a wireframe of it which doesn't read very clearly. Then the penny dropped for me - 2D animators don't see the fully shaded character in the lightbox when animating, they see only the lines they've drawn, so the spacing is a lot easier to see. THE ART CENTER / Sharing Ideas And Tips From Artist To Artist. I know a lot of people who like to paint their values first in black and white and then apply color to their values.
I've never found an ideal way of doing this, but I've learned a couple tips that help it work out a little better. First off, I don't let any of the values get too dark, except where I want things to drop completely into shadow (ie. black) In this case, I lightened the "grayscale" image before applying any color to it. THE ART CENTER / Sharing Ideas And Tips From Artist To Artist. Someone asked a question about the process of painting a character, so I'll take a stab at that one. There are many processes that each have their strengths, but for the sake of learning this is what I'd suggest. This process is based around the way 3d rendering programs work, using separate passes and combining them together for the final effect. Separating the processes in this way helps you think through what needs to be done. Lovely Illustrations by Sam Nielson.

Itchy animation - quirky illustration and characters by Richard Yot. Part 4: Artificial and indoor lighting Light indoors has a very different character to that found outside, mostly down to the lack of direct sunlight found indoors. With human beings in control of the light source there is an added twist in that the light is often designed for a specific purpose.
For instance household lights are designed to give off appealing, generally diffused light whereas office lighting is more functional and cost-effectiveness is often the overriding concern - which is why office workers have to walk around in a green murk. Most artificial lights indoors are diffused, that's the purpose of the lampshade, in order to soften the light and the shadows it produces. The major exception to this is spotlights, which produce hard lighting. On Animation - Inspiration for the Animation Masses.
