There are also some words which are pronounced exactly the same way and wherein even native speakers can only tell the difference due to the context in which the words are used such as “scene” and “seen,” for example. Naturally, words that are pronounced the same way aren’t really much of a problem for people with English as a second language since if you know how to pronounce one word, then you also know how to pronounce the other one – quite logically.

What many English language learners have a problem with however, are similar sounding words that also have similar meanings that could easily be confused for one another when used in oral communication.
