BikingToronto: Information about Cycling in Toronto. Tofino Hotel |Tofino Accommodation | Wickaninnish Inn. Toronto in the Creative Age. My research team at the Martin Prosperity Institute just released a new report on Toronto in the Creative Age. Several things really stand out. First, Toronto is still coming into its own as a major North American metro.

U.S. metros in the Northeast and Midwest had significant expansion a whole lot earlier, but Toronto has seen substantial growth since the 1950s, sort of like a Sunbelt metro. Since then, it has transformed from a sleepy metro into a large and rapidly growing one, fueled by massive immigration and growing across almost every knowledge and creative industry. Second, Toronto performs extremely well – compared to its benchmark peers – on two of the 3Ts of economic development (talent and tolerance), ranking third in talent and fifth in tolerance (see the table above). But it performs poorly on the first T – technology, ranking 11th, or last – among its North American peers. National Trust | Visits & holidays. It’s small, bitterly cold in winter, and far from beautiful – but also a likeable, even lovable city. Tim Rostron moved there from London a decade ago and hasn’t looked back ... From INTELLIGENT LIFE Magazine, Autumn 2009 Every morning I use the subway to take my four-year-old son, Frank, to school.

We’re travelling during the rush hour, so there are often as many as a couple of dozen other people on the platform and on the train there’s not always a spare seat. This being Toronto, though, someone always gives up theirs for my boy. Frank, a Torontonian himself, likes to chat with the other Torontonians. We alight at Spadina subway station and walk to the school. It’s summer here as I write, a brief season book-ended by biblical rainstorms and followed by a long and increasingly brutal winter. At school a couple of other besuited dads are hanging around the playground, but mostly the parents are dressed in casual attire like their children’s. It’s time to go edit a book. Un hiver à Majorque by George Sand. Valldemossa. Valldemossa Valldemossa (in Mallorquin) or Valldemosa (in Spanish) is a village and municipality on the island of Majorca, part of the Spanish autonomous community of the Balearic Islands.

Valldemossa is famous for one landmark: the Royal Charterhouse of Valldemossa, built at the beginning of the 14th century, when the mystic and philosopher Ramon Llull lived in this area of Majorca. In the 1830s the Spanish government confiscated monasteries, and the historic estate was sold to private owners, who have since hosted some prominent guests. These have included the Polish composer Frédéric Chopin and his lover the pioneering French writer George Sand (who wrote a notable account of A Winter in Majorca, describing their 1838–39 visit and praising the island's natural beauty but criticizing what she perceived as the prejudice and vices of the natives). Later the Nicaraguan poet Rubén Darío was guest of the Sureda y Montaner families who own the Chartreuse estate.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Félix Rubéen García Sarmiento (Metapa, January 18, 1867 – Leon February 6, 1916), known as Rubén Darío, was a Nicaraguan poet who initiated Spanish-American literary movement known as modernismo (modernism) that flourished at the end of the nineteenth century. Darío has had a great and lasting influence on twentieth-century Spanish literature and journalism. He has been praised as the "Prince of Castilian Letters" and undisputed father of the modernismo literary movement.[1] Darío is revered as Nicaragua's greatest diplomat and a leading voice of Central and South America. Life cochonManuel Garcia and Rosa Sarmiento were married on April 26, 1866, in Leon, after obtaining the necessary ecclesiastic permissions since they were second degree cousins.

Although, according to his baptism, Ruben's last name was Garcia, his paternal family had been known by the last name of Dario for many generations. Ruben Dario spent his childhood in the city of Leon. Villa grecque Kérylos : Palais antique de la côte d'Azur. Librophiliac Love Letter: A Compendium of Beautiful Libraries | Curious Expeditions. WHILE continues to struggle to repopulate many residential neighborhoods after pummeled the region in late August 2005, the bulk of the city’s popular cultural assets, which generally suffered little damage, are pulling in tens of thousands of out-of-town visitors.

And not only are those old venues still big draws — breakfast at Brennan’s, a stroll past street artists on Jackson Square, a visit to Preservation Hall to hear traditional jazz — an entirely new selection of cultural and culinary sites has emerged. There are several new galleries, some wailing new clubs and more than a dozen new restaurants — always a big draw in New Orleans. Even in parts of the city still in recovery there are new showcases for chefs, artists and musicians who continue to find that New Orleans inspires them in a way no other place can.
