Seen from the top of the parking garage at SpaceX, the aerospace startup founded by Elon Musk, the hole is an eyesore among eyesores—a crater in asphalt, fenced in by rusty-looking steel plates. Google and Comcast announced a new deal this morning that will see the YouTube application installed on Comcast’s Xfinity X1 set-top boxes nationwide later this year.
The integration will allow X1 users to launch the app by saying “YouTube” into the X1 voice remote, as well as browse featured content on YouTube, search the entire library, including by voice, and sign into to access their own personalized YouTube settings and subscriptions. Comcast says around half of its 22.5 million Xfinity customers have the newer X1 set-top box system, which includes a DVR with 500 GB of storage, voice remote, real-time sports scores, and other more modern features. The cable provider had already added Netflix to its X1 devices last year – another significant milestone in terms of merging the online streaming world with traditional TV content.
The deal saw Netflix content and Xfinity on Demand programming combined into a single library, to make switching between services more seamless. To Send Privately Crewed Dragon Spacecraft Beyond the Moon Next Year. We are excited to announce that SpaceX has been approached to fly two private citizens on a trip around the moon late next year.
They have already paid a significant deposit to do a moon mission. Like the Apollo astronauts before them, these individuals will travel into space carrying the hopes and dreams of all humankind, driven by the universal human spirit of exploration. We expect to conduct health and fitness tests, as well as begin initial training later this year. Other flight teams have also expressed strong interest and we expect more to follow. Additional information will be released about the flight teams, contingent upon their approval and confirmation of the health and fitness test results.

Introducing Microsoft Teams—the chat-based workspace in Office 365. Today’s post was written by Kirk Koenigsbauer, corporate vice president for the Office team.
Today, at an event in New York City, we announced Microsoft Teams—the new chat-based workspace in Office 365. Microsoft Teams is an entirely new experience that brings together people, conversations and content—along with the tools that teams need—so they can easily collaborate to achieve more. It’s naturally integrated with the familiar Office applications and is built from the ground up on the Office 365 global, secure cloud. Starting today, Microsoft Teams is available in preview in 181 countries and in 18 languages to commercial customers with Office 365 Enterprise or Business plans, with general availability expected in the first quarter of 2017.

Google looks to be making a U-turn on its plans to create a fully autonomous car.
Last year, the company unveiled its vision of the future of autonomous cars: small, bubble-shaped vehicles without steering wheels or pedals. Fast-forward 18 months, though, and now a report by the Information (paywall) suggests that the company is putting that plan on hold. We may finally know why the Samsung Note 7 kept catching fire. When I reviewed the Galaxy Note 7, I was a little amazed at how Samsung was able to cram so many features into a phone so small for its screen size.
But a report by manufacturing company Instrumental suggests that cramming is what made the phone prone to catching fire. Instrumental tore down a Note 7 to try to figure out what was going on – something Samsung has yet to provide an answer for – and suggests the phone’s design is fundamentally flawed. Even without any outside pressure being exerted, the design of the phone can compress the battery. Where most phone designs leave a roughly 10 percent gap above the battery, the Note 7 leaves virtually none. It seems Samsung thought its design was sturdy enough to omit that buffer… and was obviously wrong: Microsoft’s $26 billion LinkedIn acquisition will close in the coming days - The Verge. Les actionnaires de Tesla et SolarCity approuvent la fusion entre les deux entreprises, Énergie - Environnement. Siri can now send money via PayPal.
PayPal users can now send and request payments using simple voice commands via Siri on iOS 10 on iPhone and iPad.
The online payments company is making the new feature available to users in 30 countries, and in a number of languages, and it requires only that the iOS app be installed with a logged in user account. As you can see from the demo video above, using the feature is as easy as asking Siri to send a specific amount of money to a friend or contact using their name. As mentioned, you can also ask for payment from a friend by name using Siri. You then get a confirmation screen and Siri voice response confirming the amount and recipient for your transaction. This summer saw the inevitable controversy arise when a Tesla automobile was involved in a fatal traffic accident while operating in its headline-grabbing Autopilot mode. While early reports seem to point toward human error by both parties involved (the truck driver turning across traffic without sufficient time and space, and the Tesla driver allegedly watching a movie while behind the wheel), many people are debating what responsibility falls onto Tesla and its autonomous-driving functions.
Many have called out Musk’s “open beta” roll-out of the technology as irresponsible and dangerous, while others have wondered how a system with supposed redundancies could have misread the emergency situation so poorly. Regardless, it’s put the entire industry of autonomous cars under scrutiny as people ask themselves whether this is the kind of technology that should be on the road at all. With Popular Times, Google introduced a nifty little feature for its search engine last year that lets you know how busy a restaurant, coffee shop or bar typically is at any given time of the week. Today, it’s taking this concept a step further by making this tool real-time.
So now, you will know exactly how long the line is going to be before you even head out to your favorite brunch place on Sunday morning. Like before, the Popular Times widget will appear when you look for a restaurant or bar in Google Search and Google Maps. It uses anonymized location data and searches to determine how busy a place currently is. Tesla officially acquires SolarCity. Tesla’s acquisition of SolarCity officially closed Monday morning, bringing together Elon Musk’s electric vehicle company with the solar energy company founded by his cousins Lyndon and Peter Rive.
The deal was approved by Tesla and SolarCity shareholders last week, after first being proposed earlier this year. Tesla provided the following brief statement on the news: We’re pleased to announce that Tesla’s acquisition of SolarCity closed this morning. Succinct, and probably an understatement – Musk has been advocating for the union of the two companies vocally and frequently since proposing the idea in June. SwiftKey improves its keyboard predictions with neural networks. SwiftKey has rebuilt its keyboard app for Android from the ground up to improve predictions. The app – which Microsoft acquired in February – previously relied on an n-gram model, which surfaced predictions based on the last two words you’ve typed, as well as the words and phrases you’ve trained it with. As a result, it’d sometimes offer up useless predictions like ‘Let’s meet at the moment.’
The new neural network model looks at more words in your input, compare them and understand the relationships between them to produce more meaningful predictions, like ‘Let’s meet at the office / airport / hotel.’ To achieve this, SwiftKey has trained its app with millions of sentences. According to SwiftKey, this approach allows its keyboard to predict phrases that it has never encountered before in its training. The company has been working on this for a while now.
