The lost tribe that is trying to save the world - Movie News | Latest Film Reviews & Headlines |The Irish Times - Tue, Dec 10. More than 20 years ago, the British documentary film maker Alan Ereira began researching a film about a lost city in the rainforests of Colombia’s Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the highest coastal mountain in the world. In his book The Heart of the World, Ereira refers to the city’s location as a place “encouragingly known as hell because it was somewhat difficult to move through”. The description is typical of the shrewd, laid-back charm he brings to the complexities involved in setting up, making and selling a film. In 1990s Colombia it took courage, chutzpah and experience as well as that charm to negotiate warring drug barons, labyrinthine government bureaucracy and a group of massively obstructive nuns.

But in the end, the place known as hell proved to be the gateway to a Garden of Eden. At an early stage in his project, Ereira heard that the Kogi tribe lived in the area of the lost city. Ereira set himself the difficult task of contacting their mamas or elders. Worldwide Indigenous Science Network - Home. Courses in Sustainable Ecological Design | Brighton Permaculture Trust. Gain an understanding of the natural world and how the web of life works, with illustrations from around the world. If we don’t grasp why ecosystems function, it becomes harder to determine possible reasons for when they don’t, and makes it difficult to identify possible environmental threats to humans. In this course you will discover how organisms are linked together by complex interrelationships, how such links are studied and how the physical properties of a particular habitat interact with the organisms that inhabit it.

Using case studies, you will come to learn how knowledge of ecosystems leads to understanding of their individual importance, and how they can be preserved. All Open University Science MOOCs presented on FutureLearn are produced with the kind support of Dangoor Education. This course is intended for those with an interest in natural history, conservation or the environment and does not require any previous experience of studying these subjects.
