Blueprint. Document reproduction created by using a contact print process on light-sensitive sheets The process is now obsolete. It was first largely displaced by the diazo whiteprint process, and later by large-format xerographic photocopiers. The term blueprint continues to be used less formally to refer to any floor plan[2] (and even less formally, any type of plan).[3][4] Practising engineers, architects, and drafters often call them "drawings", “prints”, or “plans”. It has almost entirely been replaced with digital computer-aided construction drawings. The blueprint process[edit] Architectural drawing, 1902 Architectural drawing, Canada, 1936 The blueprint process is based on a photosensitive ferric compound. This is a simple process for the reproduction of any light transmitting document.

This process has several features:[7] Introduction of the blueprint process eliminated the expense of photolithographic reproduction or of hand-tracing of original drawings. Last year, BUILD got to know Jared Della Valle at the Reinvention 2011 event in Phoenix, Arizona. Astounded by his bandwidth, professional diversity and architectural accomplishments, they sat down with Jared in Manhattan last summer and talked about the architect-as-developer model and working in the new economy..

Photo: Richard Barnes BUILD: You have master’s degrees in both architecture and construction management from Washington University, you are a licensed architect in the state of New York and also hold a real estate license. What triggered you to tackle such a wide range of professional endeavors? Jared Della Valle: I can’t say that I’ve had an explicit trajectory—I did carpentry and furniture building in high school, and I have always worked hard. I was there for five years, and I built some crazy stuff like Ian Schrager’s apartment, a $4.5M renovation done in ten weeks. Participatory design | Formabilio.com.
