A very large genome-wide association study (GWAS) of brain and intracranial size has just been published in Nature Genetics . http://www.genomesunzipped.org/2012/04/another-iq-gene-new-methods-old-flaws.php

Another “IQ gene”: new methods, old flaws

Best evidence yet that a single gene can affect IQ - health - 16 April 2012

http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn21705-best-evidence-yet-that-a-single-gene-can-affect-iq.html A massive genetics study relying on MRI brain scans and DNA samples from over 20,000 people has revealed what is claimed as the biggest effect yet of a single gene on intelligence – although the effect is small. There is little dispute that genetics accounts for a large amount of the variation in people's intelligence , but studies have consistently failed to find any single genes that have a substantial impact. Instead, researchers typically find that hundreds of genes contribute .

Born nice? Peoples' niceness may reside in their genes, study finds

Apr. 10, 2012 — It turns out that the milk of human kindness is evoked by something besides mom's good example. Research by psychologists at the University at Buffalo and the University of California, Irvine, has found that at least part of the reason some people are kind and generous is that their genes nudge them toward it. Michel Poulin, PhD, assistant professor of psychology at UB, is the principal author of the study "The Neurogenics of Niceness," published in this month in Psychological Science , a journal of the Association for Psychological Science.

Two Genes Do Not Make a Voter | Sanford School of Public Policy

February 29, 2012 Voting behavior cannot be predicted by one or two genes as previous researchers have claimed, according to Evan Charney, a Duke University professor of public policy and political science. http://news.sanford.duke.edu/news-type/news/2012/two-genes-do-not-make-voter

How well our brain functions is largely based on our family's genetic makeup, according to a University of Melbourne led study. http://esciencenews.com/articles/2011/03/03/better.brain.wiring.linked.family.genes

Resurrecting the so-called 'depression gene': new evidence that our genes play a role in our response to adversity

Jan. 4, 2011 — University of Michigan Health System researchers have found new evidence that our genes help determine our susceptibility to depression. Their findings, published online in the Archives of General Psychiatry , challenge a 2009 study that called the genetic link into question and add new support to earlier research hailed as a medical breakthrough. In the summer of 2003, scientists announced they had discovered a connection between a gene that regulates the neurotransmitter serotonin and an individual's ability to rebound from serious emotional trauma, such as childhood physical or sexual abuse.
