Il est impossible d' installer les bouleversements liés aux nouvelles méthodes de procréation médicalement assistée (PMA) à l'intérieur de l'ancienne organisation familiale, dont le cadre législatif avait été conçu pour donner aux enfants nés en son sein un père cumulant les fonctions de géniteur présumé, d'éducateur privilégié et de donneur de nom. Vouloir fabriquer des livrets de famille en faisant apparaître un "parent 1" et un "parent 2" paraît dérisoire au regard des enjeux, notamment du fait de l'augmentation d'enfants nés par PMA, par dons de spermes, d'ovocytes et, de plus en plus, d'embryons. The council also said that the commonly used shorthand for the techniques used in media reports and elsewhere, "three-parent embryos" – because the resulting children contain genetic material from three people – was misleading and should be avoided.
