Source….www.itln.in June 22, 2019: Unilode Aviation Solutions will set up a Unit Load Device (ULD) management office at Korean Air’s hub in Incheon after being awarded the airline’s entire fleet of more than 16,000 containers and pallets for a term of five years.

As part of the agreement, Unilode will take over Korean Air’s existing ULD maintenance and repair facility at Incheon International Airport. It will provide additional services including the management of Korean Air’s cool containers and horse stalls, and will also take care of the supply of pallet accessories within Korean Air’s global network. Unilode will supply pallets and lightweight AKE containers from its global ULD pool. “One of the main drivers in Korean Air’s decision to outsource the management of its entire ULD operations was to be able to reduce ULD imbalances in Korean Air’s global network of more than 100 destinations, for which Unilode’s ULD pooling model provided the best solution.

Source….www.itln.in June 22, 2019: Low-cost carrier SpiceJet’s cargo arm SpiceXpress has announced the launch of its Mumbai-Kabul freighter services.

The airline had launched its Delhi-Kabul freighter service in October 2018. The announcement was made during the SpiceJet and Afghan traders’ meet in Mumbai. The event was attended by Manjiv Singh, chief project officer, SpiceJet; Moqadasa Yourish, deputy minister trade, Afghanistan; Naseem Sharifi, consul general Afghanistan; Sanjiv Gupta, CEO, SpiceJet Cargo; and Manoj Singh, senior vice president and head cargo, Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL). Source….www.itln.in June 21, 2019: SpiceXpress, the dedicated cargo airline of the Indian carrier SpiceJet is planning to introduce freighters from Mumbai to Dubai, effective August 1, 2019.

The company will be taking delivery of three more freighters within a couple of months, making the overall freighters to five. By 2021, it has plans to add 20 freighters to its fleet which will consist of 777, 767 and 747. In an event held at Mumbai in association with the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), Sanjiv Gupta, CEO-Cargo, SpiceJet, stated, “SpiceXpress and MIAL’s alliance will benefit in creating efficient infrastructure for time and temperature controlled cargo. Jones had been in the editorial business for almost 50 years, including a 10-year period in Fleet Street and nearly 30 years editing publications covering air, sea and multimodal freight logistics. Portcare International, a press relations consultancy for the shipping and logistics industry, issued a statement of Jones’ passing away on behalf of his wife Anne. “Ian was presented with the Seahorse Life-Time Achievement Award in 2012. As part of the project, the TIACA Air Cargo Sustainability Award will be initiated to generate ideas and appreciate and stimulate sustainability initiatives in the air cargo sector. The winner will be announced in November 2019 in Budapest, Hungary. TIACA will create a Sustainability Committee, which will act as a working group to build the programme and monitor delivery of the initiatives. The Association has pledged to organise at least one panel discussion or presentation focused on sustainability at each of its events.

Source….www.itln.in June 18, 2019: Boeing’s longer term forecast has predicted that growing passenger volumes and increasing airplane retirements will drive the need for 44,040 new jets, valued at $6.8 trillion over the next two decades and up 3 percent from a year ago. The global commercial fleet is expected to reach 50,660 airplanes by 2038 – the first time the projected fleet has crested the 50,000 mark.

According to forecasters, 44 percent of the new deliveries will go toward replacing aging aircraft while the rest will accommodate traffic growth. Boeing, a provider of commercial airplanes, defence, space and security systems, and global services, unveiled its 2019 Commercial Market Outlook (CMO), a longer-term forecast that delves deeper into the market for commercial airplanes and services at the Paris Air Show, which is being held from June 17-19 at the Le Bourget airport in Paris. “Time and again, commercial aviation has shown itself to be extremely resilient. The BMO has also projected a $3.1 trillion demand for commercial airplanes through 2028 as operators replace older jets with more capable and fuel-efficient models, and expand their fleets to accommodate the steady rise in air travel across emerging and established markets. The drivers of the growing aerospace and defense market are a strong commercial aviation industry, stable defense spending and the need to service all platforms throughout their lifecycle.

The BMO also projects $2.5 trillion of defense and space opportunities during the next decade as governments modernise military platforms and systems, pursue new technologies and capabilities and accelerate exploration from sea to space. According to the agreement, Boeing will provide key services for IAG’s British Airways, including parts for the airline’s Airbus A320 family and its Boeing 777 fleet. Boeing will furnish British Airways with its Component Services Program where Boeing and its partners will own, manage, and maintain a global exchange inventory of parts for the airline’s A320 and A320neo aircraft. The commissioning certificate was signed in the presence of S Suresh, member (finance), AAI and Bountheung Soumontha, general director (LANS) in a ceremony at SkyRev360 Command Centre at LANS, Vientiane, Lao PDR. Also present at the event were Vanpheng Chanthaphone, director general, department of civil aviation, government of Lao PDR and other senior officials from AAI and government of Lao PDR. The SkyRev360 system is a cutting edge technology for data gathering, invoicing and realisation. The project was commissioned on June 14.

Cargolux flies to Santiago de Chile weekly, adding to four other destinations it already serves in the area. The flight is routed from Luxembourg-Viracopos-Santiago de Chile-Quito-Bogota-Aguadilla before returning to the company’s home base in Luxembourg via Amsterdam. Welcoming the development, Pier Curci, vice-president of the Americas, Cargolux said: “The addition of Santiago to the network further strengthens Cargolux’s position as a flourishing player on the South American market. It is also a testament to the importance of the region in global trade lanes, especially when it comes to perishables such as fruit and flowers.” Over the years, Santiago has increasingly become a gateway for European products destined for the Latin American market.
