In the monthly data that reflects the performance of domestic airlines in four metro airports of Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai, Indigo came second with 83.7 percent while GoAir has maintained its position for 13 months in a row. During the month, GoAir flew 13.27 lakhs passengers with 0.12 percent cancellations as against an industry average of 1.37 percent for scheduled domestic airlines.

Source…www.itln.in October 16, 2019: Pradeep Singh Kharola, secretary to the ministry of civil aviation, on Tuesday inaugurated the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) workshop for air traffic control officers (ATCOs) in New Delhi. Instructors Raphael Guillet and HuHo Ha from ICAO Sub-Regional Office, Beijing are providing the training on October 15-18, 2019 at the Indian Aviation Academy (IAA), Vasant Kunj.

The workshop in collaboration with Airport Authority of India (AAI) is being attended by officers from CAA Nepal, DGCA India and air traffic controllers from 44 airports in India. While welcoming the participants and ICAO Instructors, Kharola stressed upon the need for AAI to implement PBN in accordance with ICAO plans and national needs. As an integral part of air traffic management and an important element in Aviation System Block Upgrades (ASBUs), the implementation of PBN is the highest air navigation priority for ICAO. Source…www.itln.in October 9, 2019: The US-China trade war, slowdown in the Chinese economy and the temporary shutdown of Hong Kong International Airport affected the air freight demand in the Asia-Pacific region, which contracted by 5 percent in August 2019, compared to the same period in 2018.

Freight demand has contracted for the largest routes between Asia and North America, where seasonally-adjusted volumes are down almost 5 percent compared to their level in July 2018. The Asia-Pacific region accounts for more than 35 percent of total demand, measured in freight tonne kilometers (FTKs), and this performance is the major contributor to the weak industry-wide outcome, said the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in its August 2019 data for global air freight markets. Source…www.itln.in October 9, 2019: The government of India will soon invite bids for the privatisation of national carrier Air India and sell off 100 percent of its stake by issuing an Expression of Interest (EoI) by the first week of November, according to reports.

This is the second attempt by the national carrier, following a failed one in March 2018. Government officials are also planning to meet the potential buyers before the issuing of EoI as the first attempt to divest the airline in March 2018 failed as the government wanted to keep 24 percent of its stake which didn’t attract a single bidder.

The loss-making Air India now has a net debt of Rs74,000 crore and is surviving on a Rs30,000 crore government bail-out and the special purpose vehicle (SPV) Air India Assets Holding Ltd (AIAHL) which took over Rs29,464 crore of the debt.
