Pretty Little Things Elements of Style Blog Practically Free Pom-Pom Lamp! My mom is great. She's always bringing me random things saying, "I thought you might be able to make something out of this!". A couple of weeks ago she brought me a 2-pack of microwave plate covers from the Dollar Tree. I knew just what I was going to do with it.... A lamp, of course!! Materials List: -1 yard of tulle in the color of your choice (I wish I'd had pink!) I already had the tulle and lights, so this project only cost 100 pennies! 1) Cut your tulle into small squares, about 2-3". 2) Cut a small flap in the side of one plate cover, large enough for your plug to fit through. 4) Stuff your lights into the plate cover and pull the cord through, stopping just before the first twinkle light comes through the flap. 5) Set the other plate cover on top, so they meet at the bottoms, with the lights in the middle, and tape all the way around to hold them together. 6) Lay 4 or 5 (again, no need to be exact!) 8) Drill, cut, or punch a hole in the back side for a nail to go through.
A CUP OF JO Such Pretty Things I have such a treat for you all today...an interview with Christina Strutt, of Cabbage and Roses fame! Her newest book, Living Life Beautifully, has just been released by CICO Books and I was thrilled to have the chance to ask her a few questions... Q. Hello, Christina! Christina: THANK YOU! Q. Your design aesthetic - pretty faded vintage florals, antique furniture, white backgrounds, and flowers (cabbages!) Christina: STRANGELY, YES, THOUGH IF YOU HADN¹T ASKED THIS QUESTION IT WOULD NOT HAVE UNEARTHED ITSELF. Q. Christina: NO, ALL MY OTHER JOBS CONFLICTED WITH MOTHERHOOD. Q. Christina: I FEEL I INVENTED THAT PHILOSOPHY! Q. Christina: IF YOU, LIKE ME, HAVE THE ATTENTION SPAN OF A SMALL GOLDFISH, HAVE SOMEONE BY YOUR SIDE WHO UNDERSTANDS THE BUSINESS SIDE OF THINGS, THE MOST IMPORTANT THING OF ALL IS TO ABSOLUTELY TRUST THAT PERSON. Q. Christina: CAR BOOT SALES, VINTAGE FAIRS, ANTIQUE SHOPS. Q. Christina: WE SO LOOK FORWARD TO WELCOMING YOU TO OUR SHOPS!!
simple + pretty coco+kelley ArtMind Twig & Thistle I’m so excited to share my Oscar printables for this year! I wasn’t sure if I was even going to do them but I’ve been getting a ton of requests for them and I got really excited about updating the set. The theme this year is black, white, gold and kraft paper. I know, super original, but I think the design is a playful mix of formal and slightly rustic hints. This year’s entry contains invites, paper oscar statuettes, popcorn boxes, drink tags and of course ballots; everything you need to throw a red carpet party in style! Oh, and I finally put together an “Oreo Cake” that I’ve been obsessed with since I saw it the Martha Stewart 2010 September issue. OSCAR INVITATIONThis simple invite gets some glamour when paired with a black string & button envelope. PAPER OSCAR STATUETTES I didn’t know if this idea was going to work but I knew I wanted to create a three-dimentional form of the oscar somehow for the decorations and table setting.
a time for everything The City Sage Anyone who knows me even passingly well knows that I have two favorite foods. The first, ice cream, stirs me to such a frenzy that I could devote not a single post but an entire blog to its greatness. And the second has known me to walk the length of a city and wait in line for hours simply for its light, spongy, maple-soaked promise. The breakfast staple has near-deity status in my family; every weekend of my childhood we’d worship around great steaming stacks prepared to the exact specifications handed down by my great-grandfather. These gluten-free pancakes are so easy, so satisfying, and so delicious, you’d never know that you’re not tucking into a traditional stack. Gluten-Free Protein Pancakes(serves 2)1 banana1 cup gluten-free oats (I like the ones from Trader Joe’s)2 eggs 1/2 cup cottage cheese or plain greek yogurt1/4 cup liquid of choice (almond milk, buttermilk, etc.)1 pinch each baking powder, salt, and cinnamon
