The Designer Pad - Straight To The HeART I consider myself a very crafty person and love everything handmade. I'm always delighted to see how others use their creativity to transform everyday materials into something unexpected and beautiful. When I stumbled upon these lovely heart pieces in Bloesem I was immediately seduced by them, especially by their sculptural vive. These personalized handmade Hearts are the creation of Brit artist Veronika, founder of the design studio Sarah & Bendrix.
Awesome Stuff to Buy | Find Cool Shit to Buy Chalk art by David Zinn David Zinn creates poetic chalk art in the streets of Ann Arbor. He makes his cute little characters interact with objects in the street, and the result is quite charming. Molletta Bench by Baldessari e Baldessari Michela and Paolo Baldessari of Baldessari e Baldessari designed a giant clothes pin out of cedar for Italian company RIVA 1920. Called the Molletta bench, this pop-art style seat is perfect for indoors or out – I can definitely see it outside an art museum. Part sculpture, part furniture, the bench is masterfully carved from solid wood. I used to stick clothes pins on my fingers and pretend I had really long nails.

Created by Dane Holweger Political upheaval | combustus There is something about art that allows us to access complex thoughts and feelings otherwise too difficult if faced head-on. In her poem, “Tell All The Truth, But Tell It Slant,” Emily Dickinson reminds us that this is indeed what all great art offers us, from poetry to music to paintings: a means to learn the truth about each other and ourselves in a way that sneaks these discoveries past our psyche’s gate-keeper. “Transe,” Veronique Brosset, France. 2-530 x 397 As a audio-visual librarian, I particularly enjoyed connecting my patrons with films that while on the surface suggested simply an entertaining ride, actually delivered life-changing experiences. A young man might come seeking “a good action film” and I would point him in the direction of movies like, “Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story.” in this way, difficult concepts like racism were snaked in and amongst glimpses into ancient Chinese mysticism, the making of a legend, a love-story. Might abstract art then work in the same way?
The Complete Guide to Suits: 57 Rules of Style Blazer ($1,595), pants ($295), and shirt ($295) by Burberry Prorsum. Tie ($130) by Band of Outsiders. Pocket square ($65 for three) by Brooks Brothers. Rule #1 We've said it before and we'll say it again: Fit is everything. (See above.) Even the world's most expensive suit will look bad if it isn't tailored to the contours of your body. Rule #2 Some think button-down collars are for casual wear only, but they can work great with dressier looks as well. Rule #3 Polka dots are a great way to bring energy to a suit. Rule #4 A tried-and-true pattern like herringbone or glen plaid in a muted shade makes an impression without crossing into the realm of garishness. Above: Suit ($3,595) by Isaia. Rule #5 Visible stitches around the edges of your lapels (called pick-stitching) aren't necessarily a sign of a well-made garment anymore. Rule #6 Some say you shouldn't cut the stitching in your jacket pockets, because putting objects in them will cause your jacket to lose its shape.
Soap Making Instructions | Soap Making Recipes and Tutorials | Teach Soap How To Style Maiden Braids Last month I did a makeover story with Kelsie and had many requests for a maiden braid tutorial. Yesterday she came in and we photographed these simple step by steps. Kelsie has extremely long and thick hair, but anyone with shoulder length or longer can do these braids (see my photo below for an example). Steps 1-2: Braid two strands on each side of a center part. Steps 3-5: Wrap braids around the crown of your head and pin in place with one pin each. Step 6: Arrange braids so that they cover the front of your head like a headband. Steps 7-8: Pull the rest of the hair into a ponytail and pin it into a cute messy bun. Step 9: Add final pins and spray.
