Sew Mama Sew

Fresh for February I spent a bit of time going through my flickr contacts and groups in my reader over the weekend. (Probably 1500 images!) A few favorites jumped out at me and I thought I would share -- 1. Created with fd's Flickr Toys I also have a favor to ask. Happy Monday! Amy

Gabillaume wise craft Thank you all for your kind words on my New Day Northwest appearance! I am inspired by so many things, I decided that every Friday, I will highlight a favorite person, thing, or idea. Maybe you will be inspired too! See all past Friday Favorites here. I was looking online at Anthropolgie recently and came across the beautiful work of Carola van Dyke. She has a selection of pillows for sale through them, and when I looked further into what she does, I fell deep into the rabbit hole of uniquely beautiful textile taxidermy, ceramics, and cushions. I asked Carola if I could ask her some questions and, although she's in the midst of a very important deadline, she said yes! Carola Van Dyke Blair: Thank you Carola, for taking the time to let us into your creative world! Carola: I went to a College of Fine Arts in the Netherlands and have a BA in fashion illustration and Textiles. I live and work in the countryside in Firle, England, at the foot of the South Downs. Love these bird pillows!

Mini Quilt Month – day 2: online tutorials » whip up In honour of my just released book Whip Up Mini Quilts , published by Chronicle books I declare April to be Mini Quilt Month! Every day this month I will posting tutorials and features – all mini quilt related. To kick start mini quilt month – I want to point to a whole bunch of free online tutorials to help you make your own mini quilt. handmade by alissa – she made these placemats for a present – they are so cool – whipup featured a tutorial by weeks ringle a few years back [ pt1 + pt2 ] on how to make something similar – but basically they are mini-quilts – love them. Also try your hand at making this doll quilt – the tutorial is in a four parts at sew mama sew and this sew mama sew mini quilt uses an interesting method + Elizabeth’s advent calendar quilt was truly inspiring. I really like this free-style mini quilt – lots of overlapping scraps and free-motion stitching. I liked this embroidered alphabet quilt when we first featured in a while back.
