Projects « Sarah Brin. The Market Street Prototyping Festival As part of my work with Autodesk’s Pier 9 Workshop, I collaborated with several coworkers on Autodesk’s role as Block Captain for the 2015 Market Street Prototyping Festival.
Our involvement included coaching several of the 50 project teams throughout their prototyping process, and commissioning Daily Tous Les Jours to create Knock Stop Music, a series of musical traffic lights for humans. Welcome to the UT Fab Lab The university has invested in Knoxville’s urban renewal by renovating and furnishing a historic North Gay Street property for a new studio, gallery and fabrication lab.
The 20,000-square-foot Fab Lab at 525 North Gay Street features a glass storefront that houses a new studio and gallery and two floors of industrial space as a fabrication laboratory. Our state-of-the-art fabrication facility features 3D printers, water-jet cutter, laser cutters, an x-axis mill and robotics in addition to metal and woodworking equipment. Un Fab Lab (fabrication laboratory) est un atelier composé de machines-outils pilotées par ordinateur et nouvelles technologies de l'information et de la communication (NTIC) et pouvant fabriquer rapidement et à la demande des biens de nature variée (pièces et mécanismes divers, objets de design, vêtements, etc.). Un FabLab permet de réaliser à partir d'informations numériques des objets physiques dans des tailles et matériaux divers, dans le but de pouvoir fabriquer presque tout ce que l'on veut. Ceci comprend entre autres des objets physiques jusqu'ici habituellement issus de la fabrication en masse par les processus hautement technologiques de la production industrielle. Après le succès du mouvement free/libre/open-source (FLOSS) pour le logiciel et l'électronique (ex. FabLab.iMAL adhère à la charte FabLab du MIT (English original version) :
